Next 10000 Islands sports event

We have been playing soccer/football for two seasons now, and it is time to introduce something new. Thinking about different sports that would be good, I realized that it must be a somewhat simple sport, and preferably one that I understand (makes it easier to run the league that way;)). In August-september I will most probably be introducing baseball, hockey or basketball, since they demand some time, but that shouldn't be a problem when school has started for me again and everything...

So, here's the idea.
I was sitting around thinking about what i would do now when Euro 2004 is over. I realized that the two major sporting events are a.) the olympics b.) Tour de France. I don't have time to run the olympics this summer (again, this is something we might see this autumn). So I was left with tour de France. I'm not really a fan of bicycling (although I think it's OK...), and at first I disliked the idea. But then I realized that something like Tour de france would be perfect, since it passes almost all of France in RL, our version could go through all the participant nations!

The whole race would be divided into several small races, one for each nation that participates (perhaps some non-participant nations as well if they would really like it). The result of each race would be determined by a program similar to the one that determines the soccer games. Each participant nation would write a short or long description of how the part of the race that goes through their nation is like. (ex: The race begins at the town center in our capital, whatevertown, and continues past many known buildings like the cathedral of whatever and the whatever building. After this the race continues out in the lovely countryside, passing working farmers and windmills, the race ends in our great mountainous area of whatevermountains).
When the race result is announced, I or the nation through which the part of the race was writes a description of the race.
I think this is a pretty good idea as it will not only be a fun sports event, but it will also let us know more about our neighbouring nations. Of course parts of the race will pass through Alfonia, and my puppet Sealhunters.

How is a nations skill level going to be determined? The same way as the football/soccer teams where determined?

The program has yet to be made, but it will most likely be somewhat similar to the football one. Hopefully it will be more advanced, with all cyclists not just having a general rank, but rather an offroad rank (good for offroad courses), an energy rank (good for long courses) and a speed rank (good for short courses).
This would make the whole thing funnier as some races could be short and some long, and also taking place in different places. and, yes, the rank point system will not make as much difference now, one rank point will definately be worth less.

Here's my discription:

Welcome to the 10000 islands Bike Tour! This is another leg of the jouney, Henneth Annun! This race will start on one of the largest frieghters in 10000 islands, aptly named Collosal The Race will make a half-mile circle around the fully Urbanized rim in the Atoll, and if they get there right on time, the low tide will create a sand pathway that will take them through the internal bay and to the giant steel tower in the middle of the bay. If they get there too late they will lose. This Tower is the trademark of henneth annun. This 4000 foot high steel column has been there for almost 100,000 years. Each year, 20 breave Henneth Annunians try to scale this wall and this year the contest will start as soon as the winner passes the finish line.

Description:

The UKS, an icy, barren and snowy island located in the island at the top of 10000 Islands. The race will start in The UKS's capital, Allevsis. Allevsis is made completely of CRYSTAL! The race will continue through the city, then our into the icy and barren countryside. The race will loop around The UKS's biggest stadium, The Alxid Dynasty Stadium. It will continue underground. It will make a right turn at "The UKS Crystal Mining Camp". It will then continue straight forward and end at The UKS UN/OEE/RRP Official Representative Council Building.

Facts and stuff and... ehm... drugs:

I will be introducing a new feature to the 10000 Islands sports world, this will be allowing you to give your bikers performance-enhancing drugs. So how will this work? If you want to give drugs to your biker before a race, you simply message me telling you that you have done so. These drugs will make your biker better, but only in the race right after the drugs were taken.
Drugs, however, are really not allowed so I have given the official drug-tester job to Thewsconia. After every race he will pick out a number of bikers (number will vary, but should be around 2 to 3 most of the time) and perform so called "drug tests" on them. Let's say he picks out "biker1" and "biker2". He will then message me saying that he has performed drug tests on them. If any of them actually used drugs before the race I will message back saying something like "biker1 test positive, biker2 is clean". He will then announce that biker1's drug test came out positive. A biker tested positive will be punished, but I have yet to decide what the punishment will be...

I'd like to host a leg and put in a biker. Oh, I was wondering, can my biker be like a Hell's Angels biker, not like a Lance Armstrong? It would add more to the style of pirate. That, or can I have a random biker run around and beat the other racers with bats, chains, and the like?

Well, since I have nothing better to do besides eating and watching TV, I will join in too. I think only one nation should host only. Just an opinion.

Parthini, I will think about your "random biker that beats people up", if I find any way of incorporating it into the game, it's OK (that might be hard though).

The only concern I have is (and this is in no way a stab at Thewsconia) that Thewsconia is the drug tester, but he's also a competitor. I think there should be a balance there, like have an independent drug tester, or not allow Thewsconia to dope his athletes up.

I actually think that the drug testing should be done at random, as if i was the drug tester i would likely choose the top X (x being the amount of tests) riders. Therefore i find little incentive to use drugs as if you use drugs and win you will highly likely to be caught, and if u dont win when u are using drugs well then what was the point?

Either that or before the race the riders that will be tested will be sent to Alfonia by the tester (and thus unknown to the riders)
