We are all excited by the explosive growth of the 10000 Islands region. Nevertheless, might we inquire if procedures are in place, or at least should be, for the vetting and processing of newly joining nations? I favor growth and immigration as good for the region, but we need to have a means to understand the intentions and capabilities of our immigrants. Respectfully, Fleeb

Right now about 80% of the nations joining the 10000 Islands were invited by either myself or Himes.
As the 10000 Islands stands for freedom, I have a laissez-faire attitude about the nations that want to join. The only nations I have banned were either causing problems or were from enemy regions.
Do you have any new ideas on how to handle new nations to our region?

Fleeb - Freedom is paramount. Am new-ish myself. But wonder about having someone among the older hands actively contacting new entries to engage them about their activities, interests, history, previous regions.... might not serve well. A welcoming committee, not the INS.

Armandal - The governing houses of Armandal have considered this as well.. We came here after much review of other regions but we cannot let just anyone in.
OOC
Also we would want to keep the majority of nations as people who WILL play an active role inthe game

This system is far from perfect, but I usually try to check out the regions where new nations have come from just to see what kind of regions they came from and/or what kind of messages they have posted.

Jolly good enough for me. Hail Grub, and thanks for keeping an eye on these things.

Great Wyrley -
As a relatively new nation ourselves - we would be wary of introducing limitations on new members unless the security of 1000 Islands was at stake.
Our love of freedom precludes our having a 'private club' policy, we should be all embracing, for only that way will we grow.
One suggestion however - It may be interesting to have a section here for nations to post details about their history and culture. It will help flesh out their identities, and I believe will help us strengthen our ties.

That's a good idea, Great Wyrley. You should start a new thread here in the forum with that info.

Himes
GW - that is a great idea. it would get a chance for other nations to discuss their history as well as post it!
I am right there with USG about not limiting new nations too much. I do urge everyone to take an active role in addressing issues, voting on resolutions, posting in forums, reading and sending telegrams. Be a participant and then the rest of us can get to know you.
Respectfully,
Himes
