Just before New Year's Eve, 2008, President James Stanford resigned from his position as leader of the nation of Tiranthis. The vice-president and congress did everything in their power to hold the nation together, but without a strong military tradition, being left without a commander in chief threw the armed forces of Tiranthis into disarray.
On January 1st, self-proclaimed General Markus Heft gathered his men and led them to a camp a mile outside the capital, where they were armed themselves and dressed in civilian clothes. They proceeded to march to the capitol building, where they were able to blend into a group of citizens who wanted answers.
At the stroke of Noon, Heft and his 500 men drew their weapons and stormed the capitol, taking all members of the Senate and House captive until they agreed to install him as the supreme leader of the nation. After 40 hours and a tense standoff between Heft's men and Tiranthian police, the Speaker of the House and Senate Majority Leader finally gave in to his demands.

The first official act of Heft's administration was to dissolve the Congress, and vest all power in himself and a small group of "advisors". After less than a week, his advisors finished re-writing the constitution, granting him and themselves unprecedented authority.
For more than a year, Heft ruled with an iron fist. More than 800 "corrective labor camps" were built across the nation. Along with petty and more major criminals, these camps held some 50,000 political prisoners. Anyone expressing a dissenting opinion was invariably sentenced to one of these camps by a tribunal, or executed on the spot.
On August 17, 2010, Dr. Simon Freeman, head of the ARC Research Corporation and noted relativistic physicist, was beaten to death outside of the Antes Square train station. He was confronted by an agent of Heft's government who informed him that he was under arrest for "crimes against the state". When he demanded the details, three Internal Affairs officers forced him to the ground and began beat him with nightsticks, punch him, and kick him. He died almost immediately.
Within hours, the rebels mobilized all the manpower they could. In the midst of a three day long riot, managed to drive the State forces out of the area. It was the first true battle of the Tiranthian Civil War.

From the night of August 20th, the small nation was embroiled in a full civil war. State troops were commonly seen breaking down doors of private residences, dragging the residents out into the street, and shooting them, regardless of evidence. The sound of gunfire was common, day and night. Slowly, the rebels were gaining ground in the cities.
In one of the last battles of the war, a large rebel force assaulted Freeman Square, an area near the ARC Research building. Numerous skirmishes broke out, but neither side took too many casualties. The State soldiers retreated, and the rebels began to celebrate a major tactical and symbolic victory.
With the rebels in firm control of the area, Markus Heft gave the order to launch an all-out artillery strike on the area. One of the buildings hit was a munitions factory, where nearly 200 civilians were working. At least 75 of them died in the resulting fire.

The night of September 2nd was important for two reasons. First, it was the 50th anniversary of the foundation of Tiranthis. Second, it was the night of the final battle in the Tiranthian Civil War. The rebel forces massed in a number of areas near the presidential palace. At the stroke of midnight, a force of 200 rebels led an frontal assault on the bridge, while an elite ten man team snuck into the building through the canal.
Knowing their strength lay in enclosed places, the decoys retreated once the ten man team made their way inside. It was a hard fought battle, but they were eventually able to force their way into the office where Heft had taken refuge. He managed to kill two of the rebels before the rest swarmed him, knocking him to the ground and placing him under arrest.
With Heft secure, the rest of the team got word to the main force, giving the word to attack. 1,500 rebels charged the bridge, up against 2,000 State Soldiers. The strike force made their way to the roof, where they turned the State Army's own guns on them. The rebels lost 187 fighters to the SA's 700+. Demoralized, 1,300 State soldiers laid down their arms, and were allowed to leave.
Word spread quickly of Heft's arrest, and the majority of the SA surrendered immediately or retreated into the mountains. The rebels put together a provisional government, and nearly unanimously elected the leader of the strike team, Albert Stein as the temporary president. The first official acts of this government were to change the name of the nation to Byzesion and to officially outlaw slavery. It was around this time that a member of the international group, The 10,000 Islands, approached Stein about joining.
I can't approve this because it doesn't follow the basic profile. It is found in the OOC section entitled, "Rules: Final draft." Fix it, post here, and then I'll approve it

Call me an idiot at this stuff (Which I am sometimes )... but is a phantom gunship a sci-fi thingy? If so, it's no good. If not, can you post a link to what it does?

No, phantom is just the nickname of the gunship. It's your basic helicopter with miniguns on the sides. It has no special powers besides the ability to hover and an impressive rate of fire.
Now that I look back at it, I forgot to put "Phantom" in quotes. Fixed now.
