Koenigfaste-- the largest overseas colonies of the Empire of Kannex. Once a colony of the German-speaking Tannenberg Empire, Koenigfaste now has two major languages-- Kannexian and German.
Much of Koenigfaste's territory is ruled over by rich plantation owners of mixed Kannexian and Tannenbergian heritage, called the Elitäronzuiver. The native tribes of Koenigfaste, called the Gebürtigleute, are divided into either free or enslaved. Enslaved Gebürtigleute work their entire lives in large plantations, while free Gebürtigleute (such as members of the dominant, Kannexian-supported Enola Tribe) enjoy the autonomy of Koenigfaste and the full rights of Imperial Kannexian citizens.
That has been unchanged since Kannexian conquest nearly a decade ago. But now, a rebellion has rose in the southern provinces of Koenigfaste.
For years, the Kannexian Viceroy of Koenigfaste, Ahiram "Grozartig" Enylch, had been trying to crack down on slavery, but had not been successful. He did not have enough support, both from the military nor the local population.
Just two days ago, using the Imperial Kannexian troops that arrived just after the end of the Sibovean Civil War, Lord Enylch had Kannexian troops arrest many top landowners in the south, outraging many Elitäronzuiver and Enola. These southerners rebelled, gathering enough troops to shake off Kannexian control of Enolawald and Belpaterland, the two southern provinces. Imperial Kannexian troops and Koenigfaste Self-Defense Forces are struggling to regain order after rebel forces in the south took over the railway system of Southern Koenigfaste, shocking both Kannexians back in Kannex and the Northern Koenigfastians and dealing a huge blow to the Koenigfaste Colonial Government.
Viceroy Ahiram Enylch, who is the cousin of the late Grand Prince Rajeiia Enylch, made a televised appearance today, assuring the audiences of Kannex, Koenigfaste, and the rest of the 10000 Islands that the rebellion would be soon put down and that slavery, "one of the most evil practices mankind has ever seen", will be abolished. Enylch also appealed to the Imperial Kannexian Government to send reinforcements to the Kannexian colony.
