First, this has nothing to do with race. While race is still unfortunately an issue, that's not the issue here.
During the last presidential election, 76% of the people in my county selected "Vote all Republican" on the very first page, without any kind of exploration through the positions up for election.
Talking heads on cable 'news' programs spend their time building the opposition into a Straw Man and degrading the constructed points of view. If you're watching Fox, they're ganging up on the guy with a (D) next to his name. The reverse is true for MSNBC.
My issue is that the allegiance to the party seems to be greater than the allegiance to country. Either party willingly sits behind and does nothing during a crisis or makes votes for issues impossible - knowingly making the situation worse for Americans - all in the name of making the other side look bad so their own side can get more votes in the next election.
The right isn't always right, and neither is the left.
Why do these groups need to be so stubborn that they can't just listen to what the other side has to offer. If bills could be written from both sides, rather than one side bullying the other to accept their bill, we would all be in much better shape.
This is political bigotry, and it's driving our nation further into unnecessary crises.
It's not Obama's fault.
And you know what? It's not Bush's fault, either.
It's our fault.
We watch the television programs that encourage this behavior, and we elect the people responsible for carrying it out. What's worse, they are re-elected simply to keep 'the other party' out of power.
Am I the only one that sees a problem with what appears to be a "Party before nation" approach?
