I decided to start this topic as I have decided to leave Gameplay, and return (as I should say it) to my real life persona; as so far as Internet forum posts can go in that regard. Naturally my Gameplay positions have brought ire to many; but they don't correspond to how I act or feel in RL.
I am curious to whether people here have the same RL positions as they have when being an active game-player; or whether it is the opposite (like it is in my case) and you purely hold positions for the sake of the game or your region/organization.
Surprisingly I am politically apathetic in real life. I am polite, kind, never raise my voice (or yell or swear); and while sympathetic to libertarian positions and anarcho-capitalist/anarchist communist positions; I am clearly a state capitalist pragmatically.
This is contrary to how I act as a Gameplayer, where I am quick to make my positions heard; and and happy to rock the boat in the name of my region (or just for the fun of it). I even put my writing skills to the test and write propaganda and so forth.
In terms of the invader/raider vs defender divide in real life I am quite interventionist, meaning I believe in UN peacekeeping missions and I supported intervention in Libya (and feel we should do the same in Syria). I was against the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, largely because they would not improve the security situation in the middle east; and if we accept invading them, we must accept the argument of invading any nation that has a dictator or religious fanatics.
So what are your RL positions, are they the same as your Gameplay ones?
Hmm, I've never really had a persona in Nationstates. I'm possibly a bit more social and willing to initiate contact than in RL, but I've never been any good at creating a 2nd persona, which is different from the RL me.
The only thing I can think of where my RL politics (which are left of center) might have had an influence on my gameplay involvement in NS is that it made me more interested in getting involved in ASE/RLA than The Meritocracy/ACCEL.

I am definitely more social on NS than in RL, like some people on NS General I am a bit of a recluse/hermit. How I act in NS has gradually changed over time, as in RL I have gone from a democratic socialist to a libertarian to someone who is more apathetic/unaligned politically; RL political positions tend to motivate me to change how I act/relate to people/regions/organizations in NS. My opposition to XKI, Europeia and others was born out of non-interventionism/souverainism* whereas my opposition to raiders/invaders was born out of political ethics i.e. the UN, Nato, etc.
*I am actually a federalist, so IRL I am opposed to the position.
Souverainism (from the French word "souverainisme", i.e. the ideology of sovereignty) or sovereigntism is a doctrine which supports acquiring or preserving political independence of a nation or a region. It opposes federalism and approaches independentist movements.

The only difference between what I'm like on here and what I'm like out there in the real world is that I have a big fat smile when I yell at people on here. When I yell at people face-to-face, I have to hide my smile so they take me seriously.

Both my game persona and myself are against prohibition of any kind. It's why there is almost no regulatory laws in my nation. For some reason it says private enterprise is illegal though, not sure why that happened.

Must be a stance you took on one of the issues, you have to tread carefully on some of them.
I think my gameplay style is just my natural position, but supersized and exagerated as much as possible.
My issue responses are conservative in nature, but always select the most extreme option.
My invader / defender position doesn't match my RL views completely.
For example, I am okay with intervention in a foreign state, so long as there is a benefit to my own country. If that benefit is something like increased global security then I support involving my country.
As for invasions, I'm fine with invading a nation which poses a clear and present danger to my own country.
My gameplay approach is obviously more simplistic in that I will happily defend any region that the tactical team decides to defend. I also support military action against regions which have declared war on my region.
