I think the Republican/Conservative vs Democrat/Liberal narrative is far too black and white, one can simultaneously support what are declared 'liberal' or 'conservative' policies in some areas whilst supporting either party. As for 'socialism' both the Republican and Democratic parties support democratic socialist policies akin to those in Europe, such as tariffs, market access restrictions, social security, corporate subsidies, bailouts and the like. You can also find Republicans in 'liberal' states that are far less on the party line and more supporting the views of their electorate, the same occurs in a 'conservative' state with the Democratic party.

I lean more towards conservative, but even now i find some going against what the consitution states and what our four fathers intended to be, im just gonna say Im Tea Party fan myself lol

Well the tea party holds views in opposition to the founding fathers, who had no qualms with social welfare (unless taken to extremes), opposed corporate power, and supported a separation of church and state. The tea party and even the Ron Paul crowd argue for things that violate the constitution i.e. anti marriage laws, bans on pornography, abortion bans and so forth.

I was a republican that went tea party lol, demcrats faded the day JFK passed away, now the demogods want to have American like Europe, no thankyou i like the way my country was and should be according to the consitution of the United States.

I would say that nither works to satisfaction, I tend to side with republicans more often but I hate many of their stances insocial issues, and even then they have had some bad moves when it comes to the economy.

As a Brit, the Conservative party in my country is different to the Republicans in America and just to point this out, in a poll of Conservative members, a vast majority would have voted for Obama.

This is true. And in any case, liberalism and conservatism are not opposites. They are both rightist ideologies; or, in other words, they are both capitalistic. (btw, I'm hardly conservative. I'm a social democrat)

Thank you! you just gave the perfect example of the point I was going to make. Conservative is relative. Liberal is relative. Republican means something right now, but at some point in U.S. history Republicans and Democrats basically flip-flopped and changed places. I would go so far as to say that we should stop saying that we support parties altogether, and state what political change/lack thereof that we want. From there we can choose the party that best suits us (or, if you're me, the hopelessly outnumbered fringe party).

It's quite strange. If I was American I think I would be a Democrat; I liked Obama more than Romney, yet being British I prefer the Conservative Party to Labour or the Liberal Democrats.

I am conservative by nature. It is in my blood. I was not raised that way. it is a magnetic thing for me. However, I have leaned left on a few choices in my life. But at the end of the day. I am conservative.

I would call myself a Conservative. However, living in the UK, the Conservative Party is pretty rubbish. They are no where near the Republicans of the US. The leaders don't know what it's like to live in normal life, they have no idea what it's like to be a normal working person. The Republicans are for individual responsibility and making the best chances of what you've got(like Ronald Reagn, the Conservatives in this country just want what's best for themselves (apart from Margaret Thatcher).
