From the creator of the Louisan Dictionary, we have the Ellan (pronounced El-la-en) Tangent Thread! Named after one of Duckyian Empire's celebrity crushes, like the Louisan DictionaryElla Yelich-O'Connor*, this is a thread for rants and ramblings like this.
Rules: 1. This thread is over when the original topic is returned to or if someone talks about Nazism in anyway whatsoever (this is Godwin's Law). The next person may start a new topic as an origin point. 2. The next ramble/tangent/rant must be related to the previous one. 3. Pictures are legal, as long as they are related to something discussed in the post above and the next poster can talk about something related to said picture.
*a picture of the namesake is unavailable. If a black and white pic is found, please PM Duckyian Empire the link, so said pic can be inserted here in this post.

I'll start:
I'm gonna talk about Lorde here. First things first, she's from New Zealand. Think of the last time you heard about someone from Kiwistan. *is waiting* Also, she's only seventeen. Pretty young, right? Perhaps, that explains why Ducky likes her. Or is her brown hair and blue eyes; that is Ducky's favourable combination. Why, I have no idea. Or is it her voice? Gosh, her voice is amazing and she is soooo gorgeous!

*is startled by the pic and the fact that Nox went off topic*
Nox, it is often said that a picture is worth a thousand words. But would those words be? Are you trying to debunk the ideal picture of Lorde that I have in mind? Like I said, I think she's beautiful; that picture was rather scary. But then again, I saw that pic a couple of minutes after waking up. Anyways, how is beauty measured? I may think someone is gorgeous, you might think they are ugly. But why? Is there something in our DNA that dictates beauty? Or is it something that is nurtured?

Frankely I find that Lorde produces good music. I find the notion of a good musician coming out of Kiwistan supports the thesis that even criminals can produce good things for society, even if it takes several generations for that good to be evident.

New Zealand is a nation in the continent of Oceania, next to better known sibling Australia. Poor New Zealand. Not really; they have a high standard of living and do enjoy a high level of personal freedoms and civil liberties. New Zealand is not a formal penal colony, which is a good thing. Most of the people there are descendants of the British there; there are also other ethnic groups there. Look at Lorde; she's half Irish and half Croatian. Anyways, there is a substantial Maori population to say that there is a Maori population. As a final note, it is favourable for an American to go there because its lack of smoke, light and sound pollution; its small size; its geographic variety; and the favourable currency exchange rate.

Brace yourself for Canadian Media/Political rant:
You know what I hate the most about Canadian Politics? Well let me tell you. *lights cigarette* I can't stand the way the media complains about every political party and then complains about how the public doesn't vote. *takes a drag* Like what do you actually expect us to do! You've made every politician look like a piece of trash, even when they make changes that are good for the country. *takes another drag* Canada has some great politicians, I may disagree with a lot the PC party has done and hasn't done *takes verrrrry deep drag* over the years but they've kept our economy moving throughout the economic downturn. Trudeau, I agree, is perhaps the biggest piece of regurgitated trash *takes drag* Canada has ever seen, and I'm glad *takes drag* we can agree that he is the worst potential PM out there. I wish they'd stop running those stupid attack ads though. I'll judge who I'm going to vote for based on their policies and what they stand for. Not what you tell me they stand for. *takes final drag* There comes a time when the people need to tell the Media to shut up and decide for themselves if the governments actions are good or bad. *tosses cigarette, igniting dead grass*

That reminds me a lot of American advertisements.
*sits down*
Well, my little Psyducklings, America is a nation full of crap. Almost literally. In fact, it would be an improvement. Anyways, the idea that people want to buy a product for the sole idea of being 'better' than everyone else is bogus. No-one two people will be truly equal, but the idea of consumerism is a terribad thing that has plagued America since the Second World War. Adverts have been around since the late 19th century, but really took off during the Roaring Twenties. Pictures were used, instead of all-text, and slogans were in full swing. Radio, too, played a big role. Those damned jingles. Annoying @$$ little $#!ts! Of course, that fell through the floor during the Roosevelt Administration; that is another rant for another day. Anyways, them awful adverts came around after the Second World War, thats to television. 'Hip' advert execs realised that the telly was the way to go. Not that it mattered. There were only three channels, all of them dominant radio networks. Then, the telly showed that teh 'American Dream' was to be white, middle class, white picket fence, etc. That annoys the living $#!t! out of me. Honestly, part of the reason why America is a horrible place to live the constant bombardment of adverts. Please, stop. Before I go all Gandhi on your @$$.

Lack of commercials is one more thing that makes football(the foot one, not the had one) great. Sure half time is loaded but the rest is smooooth sailing.
One thing I can't stand about colleges - the Student Unions. Seriously, what do I need a student union for? Every semester they say the same thing "We're going to fight to keep the tuition rates low." They typically fail to do so(tuition increases are planned way in advance) and then turn around and say "We want to increase your student fees so we can run a: $#!++y Radio station which no-one listens to, A Newspaper which no-one reads, A health and dental plan that doesn't provide any meaning full coverage, A Transit pass that many cant use(we have two transit regions, so if you live outside region 2 you're s.o.l), A club fee so that people can have pizza parties and hand out razor blades (no joke), and a student union building fee. If we got rid of the Student Union, I would've saved $1,227, that's out of a total of $15,000. Doesn't look like much but it in any given semester it can make the difference between going to school or having to work instead.

I remember the day where I needed to register for the SAT Subject Tests, that are required for some colleges that I am considering. She was bawling that I needed her credit card to pay for the exams. It turned out that it was USD 50.50. Now, I need to get my dad to pay for my SATs in June. And a prep book.
