(OOC Here)
It started in late November, in the province of Xinjiang, Western China. Spread by stray dogs infected with rabies. Those dogs initially attacked the odd humans that strayed into their territory, those few included Patient Zero.
As the infection took hold of him, it began to change him. He started to develop a fever, quickly followed by confusion and paranoia, days later he attacked his family and fled the area. He was never found. By now, similar events began to happen across the province, ultimately ending in the disappearance of the infected. However, they never truly disappeared. As these incidents spread, so did the word. Smaller villages began going dark and people had begun moving away, including those infected. Soon, attacks began in major cities such as Ürümqi. By now, it had begun to spread rapidly, bitten individuals that had been visiting areas from more populated areas such as Shanghai and Beijing had begun to return home. Spreading the infection. By early December, Chinese authorities had been informed of the spread of the virus in Western China after hospitals in Beijing and Shanghai had reported cases of heightened aggression in infected that led to attacks on others. Yet, by now singular cases had been reported across nearly all of China. However, to prevent 'mass panic' the incidents were kept from the public's eyes.
By the end of the week, those who had initially disappeared had begun resurfacing in areas that were far from where they had been last seen. They had been reported to have discoloured skin, pale often 'lifeless' eyes and had been seen covered in blood or kneeling near other deceased individuals. The virus was now killing, and even changing some of the infected, yet the authorities still refused to cooperate. By now, the infected within major cities had begun attacking foreigners, many reporting that the attacks were physical, biting and scratching whilst no personal possessions taken in the incidences, and now British tourists, American business clients and Chinese immigrants had begun pushing the virus outside its host country, into fresh lands.
As the virus consumed China, host individuals had begun to spread it across the world. The virus began spreading like a wildfire. When infected humans arrived at their destinations back in the United States, word spread quickly about these attackers, and not before long, attacks like those in China began to occur the US, Europe and other countries. People went missing, hospitals and police services began to receive cases of attacks. The first major incident in the US brought the virus to the worlds stage, occurred in a busy shopping mall, in San Francisco. One of the locally reported missing had stumbled into the malls busy food court, she had stood there, almost lifeless. Her vacant stare glazed over everyone, except a single man in suit and tie, she slowly stumbled over to him, pausing briefly before shrieking. He had little chance to react, in what seemed like an instant, she had turned on him. Throwing herself onto him she latched around him, quickly lunging at his neck, clamping down hard on him, tearing away at the soft tissue, blood poring from the fresh wound, all the while, panic happened around her.
Shoppers began to rush towards the nearest exits, only to be greeted by a similar scene. Infected individuals tore into what remained of people, they watched as the infected ripped out organs from screaming living as sirens blared around them. San Francisco wasn't the only place affected by the virus, similar incidences happened in London, Tokyo and Moscow. Across the globe, reports of the dead returning to life threw cities in to panic. Riots occurred, people demanded answers and there were even cases of mass evacuations from major metropolitan areas. The virus had become a Pandemic...
At first, most countries scrambled to close off their borders, but it was too late, the virus had already found its way into the population. As the virus claimed the lives of the living, it began to mutate into its final strain. Human Rabies Virus, or H8A2 had begun to kill more efficiently, with a decreasing incubation time with most succumbing to the virus within 16 hours, death was swift and often painful with reanimation down to as little as an hour. From what researchers told the world, there was a cure. However, it was all just smoke and mirrors, there to distract the populations from the horrors of the dead.
1st arrondissement of Paris, February 2014.
'The infection had spread like a wildfire, only two months ago life was normal. Everything is gone now. Even though it's been handled well here, but by god has everything changed, the military is everywhere and the roads are filled with checkpoints. I keep hearing on the news about how this place has gone dark, how those... 'things' just keep coming and how we're all doomed. God help us...
Two months ago I was in Strasbourg, living the life. Nice car, nice house, and a great job. Well, that was before this shit. Its got to have been, what, a week since we were evacuated from there. I watched so many die in front of me and to make it worse, it's not even the dead that are dying any more.
At least this place is nice. I can remember coming here as a child, that's all memories now. But Paris is my new home, at least I can still walk the streets in safety.'
