GOVERNMENT
The Government of the UNP is made up of two houses, a lower and upper house. The lower house is called the Commonwealth of the People, the Upper house is known as The House of Nobles. The reigning monarch is the Head of State and has the power to veto any bill from the Commonwealth or Upper House. For any changes in the law a Bill must first pass through the Commonwealth, before being passed to the Upper House, here it must get a 2/3rd's majority. Finally it is passed to the Monarch who signs it into law. Elections are held every 4 years for the Commonwealth of the People but the monarch may call elections when they wish. The House of Nobles is appointed every 4 years by the monarch from a list of nobles provided by the Commonwealth.
Commonwealth of The People
This is headed by the Prime Minister. The Prime Minister is the leader of the largest party in the Commonwealth. Members of the Commonwealth (MC) do not have to belong to any party and the nation has a long history of electing non-affiliated MC's. Currently there are 450 MC's who are elected on a first past the post method.
To run for the position of MC a citizen meet the following criteria
- Over the age of 21
- Have lived within the Union for a period of no less than 4 years
- Have paid taxes for a period of no less than 2 years
- Have no criminal convictions within the last 15 years
- Have taken the nations oath of loyalty publicly
House of Nobles
This is head by the Grand Chamberlain. The Grand Chamberlain is appointed by the monarch and may only serve in this capacity for a maximum of three turns, each no longer than 4 years. Currently there are 60 members of this house and any bill must be approved by 40 of these in order to become law. Members of this house are choosen by the monarch from a list presented by the Commonwealth of the People.
To qualify for nomination to the House of Nobles a citizen must meet the following criteria
- Over the age of 30
- Hold the rank of Knight or higher.
- Have no criminal convictions
- Have served in either the CoP, the military, the Priesthood, the Diplomatic Service or The Overseas Aid Project for a minimum of 4 years.
- Have been born within the Union
