DÓQLÉFT TECHNICAL SCHOOL TO OPEN IN SEPTEMBER
The first adult technical school in the Kingdom of Scow Creek is due to open its doors in September. Located in Raynortown, adjacent to the nation’s largest marine-industrial district, the school will be offering nine different courses of studies. By working with area businesses, the school is incorporating apprenticeships that will prepare students for direct entry into careers.
Current courses of study include:
Aquaculture
You'll experience a diverse range of study and complete core courses like Maritime Biology and Introduction to Aquaculture, before moving on to specialized courses in culture techniques of salt and freshwater algae, crustaceans, finfish and mollusks. Guided by highly qualified faculty, you'll work in teaching laboratories and high-tech research labs constructing and maintaining complete aquaculture systems
Brewing & Distilling
Through a combination of in-class instruction, lab experience, and a semester-long apprenticeship at a Rum Point brewery or distillery, students learn professional brewing and distilling concepts and acquire skills geared toward working in a commercial enterprise or brewpub. Incorporates a strong foundation in microbiology and mathematics.
Energy Systems
Provides students with the knowledge and skills needed for employment opportunities in the renewable energy/energy efficiency field; provides students already employed in the trades with knowledge and skills relevant to specific renewable energy/energy efficiency technologies, as well as broader understanding of the scientific, economic and technical context of the industry and the physical support systems necessary to generate, store, and transmit energy in residential and commercial settings.
Marine Engines & Mechanics
Through a combination of classroom instruction, demonstrations and hands-on work in the lab, you'll diagnose, service and repair marine mechanical systems using current technology and equipment. All students will serve as interns in one of the many marine businesses lining the Dóqléft Canal adjacent to our campus. You'll have the opportunity to work hands-on with some of the best marine brands in the world, and will work on everything from inboard gas and diesel engines to outboard 2-stroke and 4-stroke motors.
Maritime Ecosystems
Provides students with training in the practical aspects of maritime ecology. Coursework focuses on barrier beach, dune, ocean, and estuary ecosystems, and emphasizes threats facing these ecosystems. Practical aspects of the course include field methods and techniques, taxonomy and identification of common vertebrates, invertebrates, algae and marine plants, GIS and remote sensing of shallow water marine environments, scientific diving and small boat handling. This degree is excellent preparation for technical positions in marine conservation and management and marine ecosystem science.
Medical Services
Provides students with emergency response training to be able to respond to remote location emergencies and provide definitive medical care on the scene, as well as rapid in-field treatment and patient transport to medical facilities. Qualifies students to serve as first responders in a variety of land and sea-based response services.
Navigation
For those who desire to earn a living on the water providing fishing charters, dive trips or other marine experiences, or can see themselves as the Captain of their own charter boat company, this program is the first step towards achieving that goal. These SCCG approved courses provide a welcome alternative to land-based preparation courses. Our instructors have experience in the maritime industry and expertise in instructional techniques. Students master the 'rules of the ocean road,' piloting, navigation via charts and GPS devices, and lateral aids to navigation, and will amass more than 120 hours in actual marine navigation exercises.
Sports & Recreation Management
Maintenance, database systems, recruitment, coaching, and stadium management for the professional or municipal sportsmen.
Full-Time tuition, room, and board per semester is µ16,750, or 3001 NSD, with discounts for more than one student per family or per enrollment group.
