Does anyone know anything about the Freemasons? They are quite prevalent where I live, and I'm interested in knowing more about them. It's difficult to learn about them, however, due to their secret nature. I've heard that many accomplished historical figures were masons (Pres. Washington, Pres. Harry Truman, Pres. Grover Cleveland, Pres. FDR, Pres. Andrew Jackson, Pres. Gerald Ford, Pres. Warren Harding, Pres. Theodore Roosevelt, Pres. LBJ, Pres. James Garfield, Pres. James Monroe, Napoleon Bonaparte?, Churchill, Edward VII, Edward VIII, George IV, George VI, Voltaire, Mark Twain, Albert Pike, Simon Bolivar, Mozart, Buzz Aldrin, many of the founding fathers, and Ataturk, among many other very influential historical figures who were masons).
The masons seem to produce some of the finest writers, philosophers, leaders, thinkers, and revolutionaries in recent western civilization. Does anyone know anything about them that the average person would not know? Good? Evil? Just a regular ol' boys club? Feel free to chime in.

Oh a topic I know a lot about! I come from a long line of Free Masons actually, my father and all his brothers(6) and their father and so forth have all been Free Masons. I do not know how long the line stretches back but it's fairly safe to say it goes back a good bit. And I will become a Free Mason when I turn 21(currently I'm 19) and my brother tried to join but due to certain reasons he was rejected. What I can say is that the Free Masons are not a secret order like the Illuminati or whatever, it's more of an order with secrets. I know that's still shady but it is what it is. Also, acceptance is extremely difficult and I'm not entirely in my element as my father rarely speaks of it but to become a Free Mason you have to be family of one or be brought in by a Free Mason, I believe. You have to be extremely clean in the sense that you have no police record or other anomalies that could potentially affect the order.
As far as what happens inside, even I do not know. I live in Georgia and you'll see a Free Mason lodge in most towns(I live in a small county with only two towns really, both of which have lodges if that shows you how widespread they are). Any Free Mason is welcomed to any lodge but every Free Mason has a home lodge. Every building I've seen has no windows so no one is allowed to see what happens inside, and this is why I know so little because even my dad cannot talk about it much. All I have is a small booklet that is an introduction to the Free Masons.
But yeah, you can google them and find some more information I'm sure and can see how they originate and what not. And if you have any questions I'll try to help Invictus.

Thanks Voliinsteppe! I'm surprised someone even replied to my topic! It just surprised me how even a small lodge in a relatively unimportant area has attracted presidents and other figures in the past. I had no idea that the criteria to become a mason was so strict. Is it possible that you can share anything interesting from the booklet or is there a name for it so I can look elsewhere?
