I'm curious if anyone out there has familiarity with ASMR - "Autonomous Sensory Meridian Response". In case you've never heard the term, it refers to a hard-to-describe feeling that you get (usually described as a tingling sensation in the brain) that some people experience when exposed to certain "triggers". If you go on YouTube, you can find thousands of ASMR videos where people have posted these triggers, which can be everything from whispered talking to crinkling sounds to tapping sounds to role-play scenarios or hand movements. For me personally, tapping sounds and the muffled sound of music heard through a wall do the trick particularly well, but I have visual triggers as well. If you don't experience this sensation, the videos appear to be completely nonsensical.
As someone who has experienced this from a young age, it was nice to finally put a name to it a few years ago when I discovered it was something others experienced as well. Unfortunately it's not something that is medically well understood - and since it isn't an illness that needs to be cured or something that's likely to be useful for mass marketing, I doubt anyone will be spending research time to figure it out anytime soon. I'm curious if anyone else in the 10000 Islands has experienced ASMR or is a member of the online ASMR community in any way.
Yeah I've experiemced it ever since I was little. Only found out it had a name relatively recently.
I'm not a member of anything, because it's just a nice tingling I get on occaision.I have watched a couple of videos that do work though. Tappping sounds and crinkling have zero effect on me, but the softly spoken/whispering ones tend to trigger it.
I would say I consider myself a "member" simply because I watch quite a few videos now. It's the best way I've found for me to relax after work. I've discovered a few of my friends who experience it as well, and we share vids we've found once in awhile that we like. It's funny trying to describe it to someone that doesn't experience it though ... I've had a few conversations where I'm clearly being viewed as a tinfoil hat type person

I have experienced this sensation for as long as I can remember. Didn't know there was a name for it, and didn't know there were videos dedicated to triggering it. Learned something new today!
