Nearly every country in the developed world, and more and more in the developing world, provide free primary and secondary education. Such education is generally uncontroversial and accepted as necessary by both liberals and conservatives around the world. In the case of university education, however, there is a great deal of disparity between countries’ education policies. In many states students must pay fees to attend university, for which they may seek student loans or grants. Often states offer financial assistance to individuals who cannot afford to pay fees and lack other methods of payment. In other states, university education is completely free and considered a citizen’s right to attend. Debates center on the issues of whether there is in fact a right to university education, and on whether states can feasibly afford to finance such education.

No I don't think it should be free... Personally if your smart enough to get into college than you will be able to normally get grants.. If we allow people who aren't smart enough to be able to get scholarships by grades or community service then they shouldn't really go. There are exceptions of course but not normally.. If it's free any 1.5 GPA chump could go to a university and waste resources

I personally believe that community colleges and trade schools should be partially, if not fully, subsidized by companies and governments, but higher education then that (especially liberal arts degrees) should be based solely on merit- and economic need-based scholarships with the rest being paid by the student.
Prices definitely need to go down now. Public university fees are stupidly high.
So, I do a lot of forum stuff on Spacebattles under the name Cyanblackstone. Look me up! I also write stories and stuff.

Education is never free at any level. Either you primarily pay for it directly as a consumer or indirectly via taxation. Education at elementary and secondary levels is mostly paid for directly via taxation in USA, but even at a university, where students\parents are paying tuition, the education is also subsidized by taxation funds, gifts from alumni, corporate and private grants, earnings by sports programs etc.,in various ways that direct consumers are often unaware of. Student\parents are never paying for an education completely.

I agree, Education is never free. Somebody someplace is always going to pay. And there are currently tons of options to help with things like tuition. I would love for my education to be free but it isn't realistic.

I think university should be free to anyone who passed grade 12 (or other countries equivalents). However it should not be available to anyone who failed high school or dropped out.
