Hello Islanders —
Plenty of you know me, plenty also don’t. I’m HumanSanity, but folks call me HS. I’ve been in XKI for around 5 years, and in that time I’ve served as Minister of Immigration, Senator for Lyonesse East, and become a TITO Knight.
But ultimately, I think that pales in comparison to my positions, beliefs, and platform. I have feared for a long time that XKI’s political campaigns have become almost too tame — and while I applaud our regional civility and respect — I am concerned that we neglect the region’s pressing issues in our Senate campaigns in favor of party affiliation and popularity contests.
I would not like your vote because I have great experience or a long tenure in XKI — those are reasons to select Ministers and regional Officers but not our Senators — instead I would like your vote because you agree with my beliefs and priorities. I am eager to discuss the recent laws passed by the Council of Nine and my opinions on them — including my recent votes while Minister of Immigration — as well as possible future issues for the Council of Nine and my priorities for the term.
I have two priorities for the coming term —
1. I have always sought governmental transparency and accountability in XKI. I was pleased when the Council of Nine passed the Vote Explanation Act in May. In accordance with these priorities I cast dissenting votes during my tenure as Minister of Immigration in favor of both the Delegate Vacancy Act and the Citizen’s Response Act and I will push for these or similar measures if elected. Similarly, I believe discussions over important regional process issues, like the Rules for the Judiciary proposed by Paffnia which he and I publicly discussed the details of, should occur in the open, and I would support laws like this that clarify process and work towards protecting the right of Islanders.
2. XKI is suffering from a bout of inactivity. The incumbent Himes West Senator United Royal Islands recognized as much with their abstention on The Union of Democratic States’ embassy request where they recognized “periods of low activity” we are presently in and the corresponding inability “of 10000 Islands to manage the emissary program”. I believe inactivity is a confluence of a variety of factors, including our declining population and lack of coordinated regional programs. While creating some grand scheme for this seems appropriate, I cannot in good faith say I have one. However, I will push for regional activities and competitions which will help us retain new recruits and create a welcoming environment. I will utilize the portfolio of the Himes West Senator — through the lottery — to add drawings, promotions and initiate another Million Taco Drawing. I also recognize that creating activity is not a one-person show — I believe good ideas come from everywhere and the best ones may not have been realized yet — while I intend to strive towards all the ideas listed above, I more importantly want this campaign and, if elected, my term as Senator to include a wider discussion of what makes XKI unique and how we can amplify those elements.
With all of that having been said, I look forward to answering your questions.
