It is with a mix of emotions that I am stepping down from the Council. As of March 6th at 5 P.M. Pacific, I am resigning as both Minister of Labor and Registrar-General, and I have informed Markanite as much. It has been an honor to serve on the Council, implement new ideas to improve the region, work alongside and learn from my peers on the Council, help place Islanders in roles they enjoy and thrive at, and record and organize the laws that govern our region.
I leave the Council for a few specific reasons but proud of the work done, including overhauling and improving the way Islanders are hired, wages are paid, and laws are recorded. Primarily, I am leaving because I have a new RL job that means I cannot devote the time needed to most effectively serve. Indeed, between these and other roles, I've been overcommitted for awhile now. Moreover, I will be the longest-serving Minister of Labor—and indeed the longest-serving minister—in the region's history, in the longest continuous term as minister as well. At some point, it becomes anti-democratic to stay on. Finally, as is no secret, I have my disagreements with the political direction of the Islands, and I'll leave it at that.
I'm not going anywhere, though: I will remain on as Cartographer-General, Regional Genealogist, Ambassador, and Chairman of Taco Island Charities (and maybe I'll have some more time to card-farm). Indeed, I hope this model of succession is adopted by more ministers if time permits, wherein there is a long transition period between deciding to step down and actually resigning, in which to train successors and record and pass along institutional memory.
My appreciation to Grub (Lenlyvit), Woonsocket, and Markanite for the appointment, and thank you all for the opportunity.
