Hey y’all! I’m Wischland, better known around the region as Wisch. Welcome to my campaign thread for my bid for Delegate this election. Here you can learn more about me and my plans, and ask any questions you may have.
First, a bit about me:
Although I may be newer to the region than many other Islanders, I’ve put in the work and become very involved during my year here. I’m currently serving as Senior Senator for Blue Canaria North and as a Tactical Officer in TITO. During the past few months, I’ve been working closely with HumanSanity on FA policy, including assisting in the charter and recommendation negotiations of the Partnership for Sovereignty and discussions with Refugia about opening up an embassy. As Tactical Officer, I’ve also gained experience in working with other regions, having organized TITO efforts in Thaecia’s Late Nite Festival Cops and Robbers Game, and the current multi-military operation in The Embassy. Overall, I’ve worked both behind the scenes and in leadership positions, learning the skills and making the connections I need to succeed as delegate.
I’m excited to be running for delegate this election for a few different reasons. On a personal level, I’m eager to move forward and make an impact on the region, and NS as a whole. The delegacy is no easy job, but I do love a good challenge! More broadly, I believe I have the drive, passion, and ability to continue guiding the region following HS’s delegacy. Throughout HS’s term, and Kuriko’s delegacy before him, XKI has become stronger, better-connected, and more influential. We’ve made many new friends and allies in other regions, successfully pulled our weight numerous times in the SC to promote defender interests, and become a focal point of NS. I believe it is crucial that we continue to uphold and capitalize upon these trends.
How I’ll Fair on Foreign Affairs:
In order to ensure that XKI’s influence and ability to protect its interests continues to grow, I have a few different ideas in mind.
Most crucial of all is maintaining, and even increasing our presence around NS. This includes continuing as a leading role in the Partnership for Sovereignty, encouraging WA authorship alongside participation in WA debate, and prompting emissaries to sustain an active and engaged presence in embassy regions. If possible, I’d also like to provide increased assistance to smaller regions in organizing their own events, coordinating government activities, and even assisting with delegacy changes (TITO obliging, of course). My vision is to promote an image of XKI as a constant, reliable, and friendly presence that cares about the well-being of other regions. When another region needs help, I want XKI to be the first ones they come to. In turn, when we need to call in favors for a tough SC vote, to boost numbers for a lib, or oppose raider propaganda, we’ll have the social and political pull to achieve our goals.
A major part of this plan also includes coordinating events with other regions. I think HS did an amazing job of connecting and opening embassies with new regions, and I have no intention of letting that go to waste. I don’t want our embassies to just sit there as another name on a list, so I’d like to work with our allies in planning interregional events for us to enjoy. The scale and type of event would vary depending on the interests of our partners. Luckily, one of XKI’s many strengths is how well-rounded we are, so I feel confident that we can contribute to and enjoy all sorts of events, like Weekend Visits, Card Pulls, Roleplays, and more! Of course, I would work with the relevant members of our government, as well as foreign governments to ensure that all events are properly planned and executed.
What about WA:
The basics of how I handle the WA will remain largely the same. Like my predecessors, I intend to follow the forum poll when voting. There are a few minor changes I’d like to make in regards to posting each proposal on the forum, such as linking the WA Secretariat’s Voting Overviews and the PfS’s Voting Recommendations. However, for the most part, the process of posting proposals and polls here on the forum, and following the forum vote will remain the same. I have a strong faith in Islander’s abilities to judge the quality of proposals and understand the politics around them, and want to allow that to shine!
A minor note in regards to the WA is in regard to the votes of TITO members. As of now, very few TITO members vote on proposals, which is often understandable given the frequency of WA switches. However, given the relevance of SC politics to R/D, with Liberations and raider or defender commends/condemns, I feel this is a wasted resource. As delegate, I’d like to work with the rest of TITO Command to remind members to vote on controversial proposals and ensure that no votes are forfeited.
A Little Extra:
One of my long-term goals, both as delegate and as a member of this region is to cultivate new talent. Part of this is simply being social and chatting with new Islanders on the forum, RMB, and Discord. So, even with the added workload of being delegate, I have no intention of isolating myself, and want to take the time to chat with old and new Islanders alike. You guys are the best part of the region and there is no way I’m ignoring that! Another way I hope to cultivate talent is through emissary positions. Emissary is a common entry-level job in our regional government, and I want to promote it to new members of the region, and include emissaries in planning events and other FA matters regarding their embassy region, to expand the skills and confidence of our emissaries.
This is a time of change for the region. Even as old Islanders leave, new opportunities arise. We have the chance to grow stronger and better than ever before. I hope you’ll join me in ‘Wisching for the Best’ for the region and vote for me this election.
Thank you and feel free to ask any questions you have here in this thread!
