Hi everyone!
I’ll start off by saying that I honestly never intended to run for Delegate during this campaign cycle, until a few days ago. This platform was extremely quickly put together. My sincere apologies for the delay in posting this platform, and its relative sparseness.
For those who don’t know me, I’m Astrobolt, and am currently serving as a TITO TO. I’m also part of the XKI delegations to the Partnership for Sovereignty and the Aegis Accords. Previously, I’ve served as the Emissary to both Europe and the IDU, as well as the ambassador to TRR. I’ve also served as Foreign Affairs Secretary under Mark’s most recent term as delegate.
If I get the opportunity to serve as delegate, I’ll have two main priorities, strengthening bilateral and multilateral relationships with current allies, and cultivating FA talent among Islanders.
Strengthening relationships with our friends
Over the past few years, growing invader antagonism has resulted in massive changes in the foreign affairs landscape. Among others, we signed a treaty with Balder, Europeia has turned defender, whilst other independents have aligned diplomatically with defending. Nonetheless, among certain defender regions, it seems there is a lack of trust, as evident by the Europeia-TRR incident. One of my top priorities as delegate will be to bridge the divide among defender regions, particularly the allies party to the Aegis Accords. I’ll also endeavour to strengthen relations with our non Aegis allies, in order to build lasting bonds with these regions.
Cultivating FA talent
Perhaps one of the things our region lacks is a reliable way for interested members to gain FA experience beyond an emissary role. I’ll seek to find ways to get more islanders involved in foreign affairs. This might include bringing aboard volunteers from the emissary pool for lower stakes negotiations such as festivals. Depending on availability, this might also include semi-regular write-ups of significant FA that happen or are happening on NationStates.
I’ll also seek to hire senior level staff, including an FA Secretary to help out.
Other FA Stuff
Depending on the need for discretion, I’ll try to provide regular updates (thinking once every two weeks or so) about what I’ve been up to as Delegate and what FA and other initiatives are in the works.
My focus is going to be less on creating new relationships with regions, and instead focused on bolstering existing ones. Nevertheless there may be some regions (possibly some of the new frontiers) where a treaty could be forged.
I will do my utmost to get emissary/ambassador roles filled as soon as possible, including by reaching out to Islanders who I think would be a good fit for the role.
I support the sanctions against BoM and TCB announced recently under Lenly’s term, and will engage other regions to discuss strategies to counter the hostile behaviour exhibited by those regions.
Especially in tense negotiations, I never want to be the only XKI representative in a ‘room’. I’ll make sure that at least a few pairs of Islander eyes are able to look at statements in order to ensure the statement accurately reflects our position.
The WA
I’ll certainly aim to vote as soon as possible in the World Assembly, and endeavour to post voting threads at least 12 hours before a resolution goes to vote. I’ll also endeavour to provide comments to any Islander who wants feedback on their GA/SC proposal, within a one week timespan.
This campaign certainly does not encompass everything, but I hope this gives you all a rough idea of what I plan to do should I have the chance to serve as your delegate. I’d be more than happy to answer any questions.
