I had initially intended to await Grub's acknowledgment of my declaration of intent to run, but it's been a while, so here goes.
I've been here a little better than two years. There was a brief period of time where I CTE-to describe the issues that led to this would be to go into territory too personal to venture here, but I will say this: They ended in my parent's separation after years of rocky relations, and I came back. Pre-CTE, I was a Senator for two terms, for New Republica South. I stepped down, partially out of a feeling that no senator should do too many terms in a row, partially due to other obligations. I was also a Tactical Officer. I did not resume this post upon my return; it had been filled. I am a Knight of TITO, with sixty-one battle stars and four medals. I just recently joined the UPP and have been a member of the Liberal Party under Izdambodia and the Liberalisticals, under Boolari.
I believe Immigration is important. That's so obvious as to approach "truism" status. But equal to Immigration, I think, is keeping immigrants active. We seem, at this time, to be focusing on pure numbers. I, for one, would resume this approach, and implement procedures to undertake upon arrival. I remember, at one point, a buddy system. A new nation could ask for a buddy, somebody one could ask questions. I can't even find where to sign up for such a thing any more. When I left to deal with real life, we were just beginning a downward slide-we stood in the 500's. We're down to the 200s. Just focusing on getting new people alone isn't going to work. We need to keep the ones we get. How? Perhaps we seek out inactive nations within the Islands, tell them just exactly what they're missing on the forum. I know of one nation, A Very Big Orange, who has been here as long as I can remember. I don't believe he even has a forum account. All these neat features-what use are they if nobody finds out about them?
One more thing. If I win this race, or if Otupia becomes your Senator, or some third, yet undeclared candidate takes the Senate seat...talk to your Senators, people. That's what they're here for. Let us know what you think, what you want, ideas you have. Senators have the power to at least submit it for the consideration of their fellow Councillors. In fact, should I win, I intend to put my email address in my signature, to make it easier to get me.
If there are any further questions, please go ahead and ask, either here or in a PM.
