Long Distance Relationships, anyone?

Well... I'm "in like" (wrote a little about it on the Male Behavior thread).

I'm planning on transferring to a school that's 3-4 hours away from here sometime in January.

We aren't together but we have some definite intentions to hit that.

So whatcha think, mi friends? Possible? I've always been skeptical about them so I figured I'd see what you guys think.

Seriously, 3-4 hours is close enough where you could see each other on the weekends. Being far away doesn't help, though.

I think it really depends upon the people involved, i.e. are they mature responsible people who are willing to put the effort into the relationship?

But Seriously though. I am in one, We are about 2.5 to 3 hours away. And it we have kept It going for over a year now. You have to have faith and trust in the person. I love my Fiance with all of my heart and soul. And I trust her. You also want to visit. I usually visit twice a month. Two Weekends or longer. Talk on the phone alot. Let the person know you still care for him/her and want to be with him/her. Knowing one day that you will be together again.

It is a personal thing like TSNA said. I have had 3 long distance relationships, 2 were a disaster and the 3rd is my life partner. The funny thing is the one that worked was over the longest distance 3600 miles aprox

You just need to be commited to each other, and make the most of the times you have together, and when the hurdle comes decide which one of you is going to make the distance leap so you are together.

Erm, I don't know if it's just me but a distance that can be travelled in a few hours (by road assumably) doesn't seem like that long of a distance.

My gf and I live 1 1/2 hours away from each other. I see her about 2wice a week. It sucks... and it'll suck worse when I move another 4 hours further away.

If you do it, make sure you spend all the time you can with him, and cherish it.

NO! unless the person with whom you have the relationship is someone you truly see yourself with over a long time, it's not worth it!!! Yes, it's possible, if both parties are mature and put time and effort into the relationship, but so what? find someone close....

I agree with GPN, make your own decisions only you can decide if it is a relationship that you want to continue.

It is nice to hear other peoples opinions and hear what other s have to say but at the end of the day only you can decide.

Anyway, it's a little too early to find out if I want to make out the long haul, if you know what I mean. I'll decide that later.

In psychology there is a phrase called "proximity effect". Essentially it means that the closer someone is, and the more that we see them, the more we come to care about that person... By contrast, the farther away someone is, and the less we see them, the more feelings for that person will tend to dissolve over time...

I find that this is true for many relationships... especially those relationships that are relitively new. However, if a relationship is strong, has had adequate time to grow and develop, and both people forsee a future for themselves as a couple... I see no reason why it couldn't continue as a 'long distance relationship'...

Yeah, but that also encompasses how much contact the people have. Like talking, emailing, etc. Just like the first impressions in person but also first contact. *shrug*
