Description: For years the forest of numerous nations have been abused and destroyed for profit. In many nations, this is reaching critical leavels, almost to the point where all the forests are gone. If we destroy the forests now, they're gone. Forever. My reasons for this proposal are twofold:

1. Enviromental Concerns
The destruction of the rainforest has a major destructive effect on the enviroment. Countless spieces of plant and animal will be destroyed if deforestation continues at the rate that it is currently. These animals would be dead, and thier would be no way of resurecting them, short of cloning, which rases an entirly diferent moral issue. The simple fact is that the destruction of rainforest is simply pointless destruction as thier is no way to make the forests renewable without seriously cutting the money that they make, which is the reason for thier destruction anyway! The mindless destroying of a valuable national resorce will, in the long run, achieve nothing.

2. Thoughts of the future
By destroying the forests today, there is no way that they will produce money in the future, either through turism or logging. People don't recognise that, while forests make more money more quickly when felled on the mass scale, in the long run, monetarily the same amount of money could be produced by carefully felling a section of forest, then helping it regrow. This way, the woods produced would be more valuable on the international market due to the decreased availability of the timber. Over a longer amount of time, the money produced would, in fact, outstrip the money made by the wanton destruction. The forest would, with help, renew its self and go on making money. As and added bonus, turism would increase.

Solution
While decreasing the would chipping industry would, in the short term, over hundreds of years the over all efects on the enviroment would realy save the world from the rampart destruction of forest that it has fallen into a cycle of.

This is actually a rather good proposal, of which I actually like. Mostly because they give good reasons for which to stop it and they provide ways to keep industry alive. I'm not totally sure about how people will make the same amount of money, but basically this is an overall good proposal.

Well.. I just want to make my opinion sweet and short. Yes, save the forests of the world or we die. I think that's a very naive comment. And the Western world is too rush rush money=time type place, we gotta enjoy what we've got. Our priorities are screwed up. Um... that's all I have to say and I'm not going to debate about it.

I favor this resolution because all that was said is true. Also, the climatic and environemntal changes that would occur as a result of massive logging would affect everyone regardless of borders. Lastly, it would make my ninja-monkeys sad if their non-ninja relatives would die out...

We vote in favor of this resolution, though we have no strong feelings one way or another as to whether or not this violates national sovereignty. Because damage to rainforest and old forest growth affects global climate, we are convinced of the need for some level of regulation globally in this matter and cede our sovereignty in it (despite already voting for it).

We do not believe the UN should regulate our nation to preserve what we were blessed with. If we want to run it into the ground, that's our right!

I believe we should support this resolution, not only does it contribute to the worlds supply of oxygen, but it would also preserve species found nowhere else, and we can look into medcines pioneered by nature in the rainforest which we can then refine and synthesize. But with such a thing as deforestation, what one nation does can affect all the nations surrounding it, or even the whole world. Even if one country continued deforestation, it is possible that another could receive harmful effects, such as increased carbon dioxide, which leads to global warming. This is a godd issue because it doesn't work unless we all have to go through with it, not just those who think it is right.

I totally agree with Boktavia on that. I definitely think we should by all costs protect the rainforests in all the countries in the UN, because they are priceless and rare and we should feel proud to have them. It would ruin the earth if those whole eco-systems would disappear.

How do you feel that the rainforest(20% Oxygen) makes only a little of Earths oxygen and Diatoms(Plankton)(80% Oxygen) makes up a ton?
"It is just SCIENTIFIC LIES!!!I frankly am tired of all this scientific vodoo, we should all live in the forest and forget about science."
So are you saying that the ocean is in no need of enviormental protection?
"We shouldnt have to help the ocean, I mean what is down there. It is just another myth like the ozone layer."

What should we care more aobut, The Rainforests or the Oceans?

Valor Knights had just passed legislation allowing limited mining activities while preserving most of the countries rainforest. We understand the importance and significance of the forests and we do understand the need for a sprawling economy. It is for that reason that the Allied Nations of the Valor Knights opposes forced legislation to preserve the worlds forests. We actively replenish area's where we minned or chipped with new foliage. This area constitutes less than 10% of our RainForests while adding over 30% to our Gross Domestic Product.

Forced legislation will cripple our economy, plunge our citizens into unemployment.

If enacted, to replace lost revenue and to keep our citizens employeed, we will add extra incentives to recruit for the Nations armed forces. Offering free room and board to families, free medical to families, a lucrative pension plan upon retirement, and education packages for families with children.

Certainly we will recoup lost income from our mining and chipping industries while we accept blood money to protect other countries with our now modernized military.

It would be best to allow us to decide the best course for our forests and vote no to this resolution.

Klington, oxygen is not the only reason we need trees. As I said, they also take carbon dioxide out of the air and help to stop global warming. Also, how many millions of trillions of dollars would it take to replant the rainforests? It would be much less expensive if we just saved them before we have to replant them. And at the current rate of deforestation, I have learned this as a fact, the forests will be gone despite current attempts to replant what has already been cut down. And I think that while it may not seem as much compared to 80%, we will sense a drastic change in climate and temperature if 20% of our oxygen is gone! It is obviously important to keep our oceans healthy, too, so maybe you should write a proposal of your own to help diatoms, that way we can keep all of our oxygen without having to give up 20%, or 80% or anything! I would be in full support of you if you did, just so you know.

Yes the Ocean needs saving, yes most of the oxygen comes from diatoms, and yes we're looking for medicines from the sea, and yes there are millions of species in the ocean, but you are taking an extremist point and not looking at the big picture...

What about the species that exist nowhere else but the rainforest, what about the medicinal research that is conducted there, what about the natural cycle and the ecosystem??

I say we save both the rainforest and the Ocean.

Of course it may make sense for individual nations or even regions to make that decision. We think these global governmental decisions invade our soveriegnty.

But like I said, this issue does not work if it is left up to national sovereignity. If it was, then many nations would of course not agree to it, and then the whole thing would be moot because everybody would suffer the effects of one nation cutting down its trees. Don't get me wrong, I think that the vast majority of the recent UN proposals have been extending the UN's power too much, but for this proposal we need to have everybody doing it.
