Peter Jackson et al deserve it. They've been left out of the limelight for far too long, and it is one of the few movies which does great justice to the original work.

LOTR definitely deserves best picture, and it will win it, too. I mean, all the other movies are really good this year, but if you really think about, the whole scale of the movies are fantastic, especially in this 3rd one. The acting is really good, the special effects are incredible, it's got amazing cinematography-this trilogy was just about the largest event in film history, and it deserves to be recognized for that. Peter Jackson had to be an amazing director to pull it all of so well, too, so he should definitely win, also.

Yeah Sean Astin (Sam) should have been nominated for supporting actor. And who's idea was it to give Renee Zelwegger best supporting actress??!?! Every one of the other choices were SO much better than her! I'm kinda disappointed that LOTR won so many though, 'cause Seabiscuit got shut out and I really liked that movie. Man, Billy Crystal (sp.?) was hilarious, though! Great opening sequence. Tha part making fun of Something's Gotta Give was really funny.
