Validity of the Islands Party

I waited until the election fallout had settled before reopening this discussion. Hopefully the fact that this isn't taking place concurrent to two elections means that we can keep things a little less heated.

Recent weeks have revealed a certain number of certain parties with certain scruples against the very existence of the Islands Party, or less formally known as TIP.

In order for TIP to move forward and grow as a political party, political force, and a potential pool for election candidates, the party needs to hear what the aforementioned scrupled individuals have to say.

To start things off: There also seems to be a great amount of confusion as to what TIP's actual platform is (if any). The party's platform is this: None of the other political parties are active (until the recent formation of The Other Party, or "TOP"). The party was designed to stimulate an otherwise inactive political environment. Since the party's advent by MinnaCaroline, no election has been run with an uncontested candidate. TIP members have served and continue to serve in all capacities of government, including Senators, Delegates, and Department Ministers.

Now, keep in mind, this isn't the time or place to be sniping at one another. If there is a personal attack made against any participant involved or not involved in this debate, I will yell at you. Don't tempt me either, I like to yell. This thread's purpose is simply to air grievances against the Islands Party, and for TIP supporters and members to defend their party's position on questioned matters.

f I recall correctly, the only requirements for a party to be recognized is that it has 3 UN/WA members and be approved by Grub. TIP definitely satisfies those requirements, hence there should be no question to its validity.

Just because it lacks a political platform doesn't mean it has no party platform. It's party platform just happens to be 'Defending, Justice, Peace and Tacos for All' -- all very worthy goals, I might add.

This is a point that a few people don't seem to grasp. Most of the world sees things as Left vs. Right, Liberal vs. Conservative. A platform that doesn't fall on that spectrum is just incomprehensible.

Before I open my proverbial internet mouth, understand that I have no problem with TIP and that my viewpoints aren't necessarily my beliefs, yet rather, they are mere observations.

A nation (a real world nation) can have fair elections, yet if there is no contest for the incumbent, it really isn't democratic. Only through choice is true democracy and freedom able to flourish. TIP isn't a bad organization, it has simply such a broad platform that it encourages everyone to join. In theory, people in parties lean toward a tendency to not run against each other once one candidate has been chosen, yet this has been shown to be wrong in reality on several occasions in 10KI from what I understand (haven't been back for long enough yet to actually know that for a fact). Put a and b together and what could theoretically happen is elections where there is no serious chance or opportunity for contest against the incumbent or chosen TIP candidate.

Again, I don't believe this has happened yet nor do I think it would have happened, but alas, the chance of a problem is still there.

But, that's why I created TOP, another broad platformed party, so there will always be an opportunity that any challenger can receive adequate backing from a party.

I have serious concerns about TIP. My physician has prescribed asthma medication for me because of all the balloons I have had to inflate for TIP campaigns. In addition, I have grown back so many limbs, I can't remember what my ring size is. All that political activity and democracy makes it very difficult for me to hide the bribes and graft I get as Mayor of Taco Island. If this keeps up, some one may actually suggest that we ELECT the Mayor. Based on recent polls, that would be a disaster

Besides, TIP is causing people who ordinarily would not care at all about Island politics to become involved. How could that possibly be good?

I created TIP for this exact reason, incumbents were running unopposed and I didn't like it. So I wanted to create something that would welcome everyone and make sure we always made it a choice for elections. I really appreciate you creating TOP!! I'd hope not. We'd win every time. I would imagine that gets boring after a while, but then I realized I live that every day and crushing someone else's logic is always fun. So, therefore, no imagination required.

This is more of a perspective than it is an argument. I don't particularly like politics. It raises my blood pressure something fierce and honestly in most areas, I tend to stay well away from it. I think it's very easy to bring in real world politics into our little community here. Since we have view points from different countries and different ends of the political spectrum, there is a wide range of opinions. I think that by nature we have to keep something very conscious in our heads when we come here. This is a game for better or worse. This is all supposed to be fun. This should not incorporate the worst aspects of real word politics in any way. People come here to escape those stresses, not have them follow us in. I don't know exactly what happened in this last election, but it was as volatile an environment as I've ever seen one here in my time. I can tell you, it was not a fun place to come and read some of the threads going on around here. Whether you take any of this seriously or not, it was not at the standard I had come to expect around here.

We shouldn't be coming here to slander or attack anyone, period. We don't have to agree with everyone's views, but we should have a level of decorum and respect for everyone here. There should be no personal attacks or suggestions of malice made here. Certainly, no one should question the motives of people who do nothing but come to unwind and have a laugh on a daily basis. The Islands Party was not created as some evil-mastermind plot to take away the democratic values of the Islands. It was created out of thin air to bring back life to a once stagnant and boring community. Before our population surge, we had many areas of the Islands which had fallen dormant. Recently, a few Islanders took it upon themselves to bring life to them. I applaud these folks. They don't get paid to show up here and do this. It is a recreation of their free time and energy. They did it because they enjoy our community and want to enrich it further by providing a spark of role-play. This role-playing is akin to a group of kids who play make believe at home. The idea is to have fun, to goof off and to create entertainment out of thin air. I sincerely hope that that concept has not been lost along the way. We may be big kids now but we still like to pretend and goof off.

I don't give a d**n what your political affiliation is outside of this game. I may not agree with your real world political assessments or values, but I will not drag those disagreements into this place. The 10000 Islands shouldn't stand for those things and I know I certainly won't. This place is a just a giant sandbox and we all have our shovels and buckets to play with. There shouldn't need to be anything more than that fundamentally. If you have issues with people about their real world philosophies then leave them at the sign in page. This place should be fun, in any language in any country or in any family of politics. The fact that there was even any warrant for this thread disturbs me. I hope that people come to their senses here soon and let this community come back to where it should be. Stop making issues where there are none and stop sucking the fun out of this game.

Actually, I agree with HNV completely. Anyone who gets involved in 10KI politics does so simply to make it a better place. Other than, of course, the Mayor of Taco Island, there are no fortunes to be made from political power here. There are no bribes, no graft, no influence peddling, no lobbies or campaigns to fund. No "jobs for the boys", no board appointments on retirement, no rich pensions. So, there really is no excuse for the political debate to be anything but amicable.
