So far this is very much a rough sketch and work in progress, to be honest I've found it to be incredibly enjoyable creating my own little world..

The Commonwealth of Minurva
Brief History: (rough sketch/WIP)
A country forged through tragedy, the complete history of Minurva is somewhat forgotten. At one time many years ago the islands fell under rule of foreign power. During this period a class of nobles maintained rule of the small local population while answering to their imperialistic masters. It was a time very similar to that of
feudal Japan.
One day a vast fleet of ships arrived from the mainlands, and much of the population was forced to board the many ships. These poor souls were but the first, and sadly not the last, to be conscripted for what is now known as the great war.
All was not at a loss however. Being well behind the technological curve of the outside world, and under rule by foreign power, Minurva was both allowed and preferred to maintain it's feudal society. The nobles in power simply did not care as to what was going on in the outside world, and while internal power struggles and fighting broke out regularly throughout the islands, the thought of invasion by foreign power was unimaginable. The imperialistic mainland saw to keeping this disillusioned sense of peace. Now however, this sense of peace seemed shattered as more and more of the population were forced to join the ranks of the mainland's military. Most never returned.
It was in this short time span that the House of Nobles was established in an effort to maintain continuity of Minurvan culture. It was a time of great technological gains, freely given from the mainland in hopes Minurva could, if need be, become a last outpost for the mainland. In this time of vast growth, war ravaged the mainlands. And then one day, something unthinkable happened. A vast fleet again arrived, but they were not carrying an army to conscript the local population.
It was the first of the "rebirth", when Minurva would become the melting pot of its once imperialistic masters. Slowly, people would show up in the many harbors of Minurva hoping to escape the war torn countries of the mainland, and very quickly society began to flourish. War in the mainland simply came to an end, but countries on both sides were so beaten and bruised from fighting, that life became hard for all. The one time imperialistic ruler of Minurva simply ceased to exist. It had fallen into disarray.
And so, Minurva became a small beacon of light to the people of the mainlands, and some continued to travel across the broad stretches of sea between Minurva and the mainlands, reaching out for a new start. The House of Nobles, now composed of five families, developed a circular table ruling policy, but still internal power struggles would remain. Seeing as to the large population growth over a relatively short time, and in part due to the mistrust of several families of nobles, the people of Minurva strong armed their position within the government. The Council of State was born. The Commonwealth of Minurva was born. A society of extremely patriotic citizens focused on defense and development would flourish while maintaining a state of neutrality with that of the outside world. Trade opened, and the economy would boom to new levels.
Minurva had entered the world stage...
