well...I am a member of the UN..and everything...but I do not know much....does anyone care to fill me in?...like...tell me the basics and kinda help me along?...Thanks
Sure, and welcome to the 10000 Islands! Every day you are presented with some issues on which you must take action. This wil affect your nation. AS you said you are a member of the UN. Go to the UN page (located at the tool bar to the left of the screen) and take place in votes, to have your voice be heard. Every region has a UN delegate, ours is currently Himes, but he will be stepping down on the 26th. You can endorse other nations for this position, the nation with the most endorsements is the regions UN delegate. The UN delgate for each region has the number of votes equal to te number of endorsments they have, plus one. This makes our UN delegate very powerful. Also, regions may try to invade other regions, and try to endorse their own candidate for UN delegate. If they do this, the new UN delegate can ban all previous regions form that region, scaterring them all. The 10000 Islands does not do this, it only protects regions to which this has happened by going to the region and endorsing the real UN delegate.
Only in role playing games, which you may choose to participate in or not.
In the life of the regions, some regions (Invaders) try to take over weaker other regions. 10000 Islands was once invaded by a powerful force and saved only by the response of regions that have since grown to be our friends and allies--read about it in the history of TITO.
10000 Islands is a group dedicated to countering Invaders and helping those who have been invaded. If you are interested in this work, contact Grub about joining TITO.
2) What are endorsements about?
Endorsements are the way the UN Delegate is chosen. If you are a UN nation, they amount to a vote for a nation you endorse as UN Delegate. (You cannot endorse anyone if you are not a UN nation.)
Some nations try to collect endorsements even when they are not seeking the UN delegate position, as a popularity contest. We encourage you not to try to "trade" endorsements. They are the expression of your political judgement that this nation would be a worthy delegate. Also, notice the provisions about the number of endorsements non-TITO nations may obtain in section 2.2.1. of the Constitution.
3) How do we communicate?
There are five important ways of communicating in NS and 10000 Islands:
a) The 10000 home page Message Board. You may write any message for the whole region you wish there. Try to be brief and remember it's for everyone. Etiquette rules apply and are enforced.
b) Telegrams (TMs or TGs) to individual nations (in or out of 10000 Islands) may be sent by going to the nation's page and writing a note in the box and pressing "Send Message". This is a private communication between you and that one nation. (Etiquette rules still apply.)
c) 10000 Islands Discussion Board forum threads (like what you are reading right now): you are welcome to post in these forums responding to or beginning a therad on the subjects you please. Remember that most 10000 Islands active nations are reading what you write--it is a public communication. Please stay on the topic and try to be brief. Etiquette.... etc. If a thread is locked you will not be able to reply to it--talk to a mod if you want to comment there. Many of the Library threads are locked.
d) TMs in the Discussion board. You can write to anyone registered on the Discussion board by looking up their name in the members section at the top of the page or clicking on their name as it shows on the board. That pulls up their info and at the bottom you click on "Send this person a message" and it opens a private note to that nation only (or others if you type in their discussion board name, usually the nation's name); you can also send yourself a copy by typing that into the send line. The advantage of this over the NS regional message board is you have a record of the message you sent if you need to look at it later. Etiquette...etc.
e) Last but certainly not least, don't forget communicating with all of the NS nations through the NS Forum. You click Forum on the left panel of your nation's home screen and it opens up a vast world of topics and postings from the thousands of people across the world who are part of NS. Explore it at your leisure--you will learn a lot. As you do, share that with your fellow nations here in the University.
In all, let us encourage you to reach and communicate with your fellow 10000 Islanders and the rest of the NS world. As Orange Karma, who first suggested this outline says, "i would also encourage interaction with other nations...i think half the fun is communication between ppl and getting to know each other." Grub couldn't have said it better himself.
