Definitely go with acoustic if your a beginner. Even if you're not, still go with acoustic! ;D
I personally prefer the sound of an acoustic guitar, and I've heard a lot more interesting stuff from acoustic guitars than electric ones. Not that electric are bad... they're great too!
I have both and personally like playing my acoustic more. It also depends on what you want to do. If you eventually want to be in a band, etc. you may want to go with the electric.
While acoustic makes a more beautiful sound electric is more versatile bang for your buck. There is far more music you can play on it, and you can change the sound for almost no money... but it's up to you
It;s probably because you aren't used to playing acoustic yet, you should become accustomed to it and it should stop hurting, also, make sure your fingernails are cut really short, it helps alot.
it is normal. Like Wala said, it's possible because your fingers haven't calloused yet. *grin* It will get better over time. If it bugs you a whole lot there are low tension strings that should be easier to play. Some fret boards also are easier to play than others.
I personally, have a classical/nylon string guitar because of my wimpy fingers. Now it's gotten to a point where I can play a couple songs on steel string guitars as well.
