In ancient times the city of Masonopolis was and independent city-state. However it was soon conquered by the Namor Empire. The Masonipolitans never forgot their former independence.
In the fullness of time the Namor Empire declined and fractured from within. The Masonopolitans seized their chance, and under the leadership of the first King of Masonopolis Waden I, drove out their conquerors. The Namor Empire was not dead yet though, and the Masonopolitans had to face the last death throes of the Empire. But they retained their independence and through the wise leadership of the Kings of the Royal House of Masonicus they were one of the few havens of science and progress in the Dark Age that followed the collapse of the Empire.
