Dear Islanders,
With the recent closeness of the vote on "The Gem Trading Accord", I was wondering what people's thoughts were on how resolution authors should or should not approach discussions here, and how we can coordinate to gain pertinent information on the vote in the Islands.
I have had the permission of the delegate to speak in favor of my work in this forum (and I ultimately created a new nation to live in 10000 Islands), and I have seen nothing to indicate that the incoming delegate will revoke that permission - correct me if I am mistaken. That said, two points remain.
First, what degree of lobbying is acceptable? I would be extremely uncomfortable sending a TG to nations who are not regional delegates in a campaign without prior permission, for example. PMs through the forums were raised as an alternative, if I recall, but I'm still a bit leery of being irritating (and losing any support I might have had for my resolution!) through that avenue. Do others feel the same, or am I just being overly cautious?
The other issue is that non-Islanders (maybe only non-WA Islanders, as is Harpoon Man Henrik?) cannot see the current vote tally. I understand that the vote can't be too accessible, or non-Islanders might attempt to crash the poll, and there may be an added dimension of privacy (for all I know, nation names might appear next to the vote option once submitted). The count would be immensely useful in deciding whether to campaign heavily in the Islands for additional votes or not, though. If the vote were, say, 12-11 against, I'd realize that there's a chance to sway the decision. If it were 21-2, on the other hand, I'd hate to waste everybody's time.
In any case, I do want to thank the community in 10000 Islands for actively inviting authors to discuss their work, and I'm glad that I was afforded the opportunity to become involved on these forums outside of WA business.
Sincerely,
Harpoon Man Henrik
