G’day all
I have just immigrated to this incredibly active region. As a new member of 10000 Islands I can see the huge possibilities for advancement in order to assist those member nations that have no voice through organisations such as the UN or TITO. I am standing for one of the Senate positions.

The platform that I am standing on consists of:

1) Moving some of the Executive powers to the Legislative
a. Allow non TITO members becoming the UN Delegate
2) I am able to bring to the 10000 Islands a defence network that comprises dozens of regions that has successfully defended against 17 separate attacks.
a. This network is purely defensive in nature

I guess if you do a little sniffing around in my previous region of the Sardaukar Confederation you may find out what a nice person I am and how wonderful a national leader I have become or you may find out that they have never heard of me but that is something that I can’t change. You will simple have to watch over the coming days and weeks and months and years to allow that most beautiful of creatures, Trust, blossom in you heart of hearts

We would point out that Washing Machines' proposals all work to subvert the security of the 10000 Islands by making penetration of the leadership echelons by covert operatives infinitely easier.

Further, he promises benefits over which he has no observable control, the actual desireability of which has been far from established.

Opening up the position of UN Delegate to non-TITO nations would threaten the entire region by giving hostile regions a chance to invade. As to the defense network you metion, could you please give us some details, like its name, it's members, its military actions, etc.

I would not propose that we enter either of these alliances as I don't think they work all that well at the moment, but rather we should improve relations and consider joining them in the future.

This seems to have turned into the California Governor elections that were watched with amusement around the world.

When I first came to this region I was advocating that members that were not part of TITO could become the regions UN Delegate. Many people have challenged me on this stand and put forward very cognisant arguments as to why this should not be. I understand that security is paramount to a region but how does being part of a security organisation make a person more eligible hold office? The very people that advocate that their representative be the UN Delegate bandy about endorsements as if they were candy at a fair. This very step starts to undermine the process that they are so keen to sponsor.

When people start to feel threatened the personal invectives start to arise. Maybe I am too big for my boots but if this is so I walk with sore toes. However I do not believe this to be so, rather I am a person that is putting forward a platform that is different to yours. You may not agree with it, you may not like it, it may even be in the opinion of some down right dangerous but it is allows for greater representation of all people in this grand region.

Please understand that I am not an agitator but a person engaging in democracy.

People who are disagreed with sometimes mistake disagreement for invective.

Those who are indeed agitators try to use that mistake to stir up discontent among folks who have voluntarily agreed to live under a covenant that provides them with a security that pure democracy never can. They can be quite clever and disarming, but they usually reveal themselves over time.

You are welcome to try to live here under our constitution and to amend it by the processes it provides. But with your wide experience you also understand the powers vested in the regional founder.

We look forward to seeing what positive contributions you may have to make to 10000 Islands.

As each day goes by and as each post I put forward is replied to I learn more about NS. As I have moved here from a rather inactive region and have up to this point been wholly enamoured with the growth of my own nation my understandings of the greater machine that is Nation States has been rather limited. However over the past few days I have come forward in leaps and bounds with my comprehension and the amendments to my thinking occur as each hour passes.

It seems that there is a strong emphasis on military service as a requirement of office. In the country that I come from this is called a military junta. I urge voters to consider a senator that is not a member of the military.

Why?

For one my focus is not always abroad scanning the horizon for threats. Yes I concede that this is a very necessary part to the security of our region but it should not be the one and only reason for being a senator. Rather if you vote me to the senate I will focus on domestic issues. These issues include strongly structured ministries that allow for policy development from citizens of the 10000 Islands to be considered. The implementation of policy that is consistent with our stated aims and constitution. The introduction of a region wide currency that allows free trade between nations is a key component to a strong region. This gives a coherency to disparate nations within a region. One more part of domestic policy that I will focus on is the region map. Again this makes the ties between nations stronger.

Vote for the people and not the army.

I'm afraid that you are wrong. This is only my second region since I started playing NS. I have but one nation and am simply putting foward and alternative. I understand that many of the people here are from America and that you are all living under a cloud of fear at the moment. Other peoples of the wolrd do not.

Fear is what terrorists are aiming for and I believe that they have failed in scaring America into disability. The governments of the rest of the world, and especially Europe, seem afraid of America becoming more important than they are. So do not imply that America is a nation of whimps who won't do anything. We aren't. That's why we were able to do things that the rest of the world wouldn't, such as Afghanistan and Iraq.

I am sorry for the vast generalisation but I guess I was trying to make an analogy about between the current situation in the USA and the attention I seem to be attracting from people trying to run a smear campaign during this election. Whilst smearing is an excepted part campaign tool I dislike it some what.

As a proud Canadian, I am glad to be living close to our American Allies and am glad to see how both nations, despite some differences* still seem to live in close harmony.

I have very strong views on the current real world situation (well, I'm a student with too much time on my hands) and I could easily go into 5 page rant about my views. However, this is hardly the time or the place. Perhaps if someone wants to create a new thread/board about real world events they could do so.

Ok I'm going to bite. I guess I made that comment not being a ‘man on the street’ as it were. It opens an interesting debate on the perceptions gained through listening to the media reports coming out of the USA at the moment. Australia, where I live, in my opinion has a fairly balanced media reporting mechanism. That is it is not too left or right wing biased. Currently the picture being painted by Australian media suggests that the government of the USA has gone security mad and the term ‘climate of fear’ has been used quite a lot. Now this may be due to our media jumping on a term, such as ‘shock and awe’, or a reporting of only a small non-representative group i.e. the White House propaganda machine. The interesting thing here is that ‘the man on the street’ opinion came through on a web based chat site and that opinion, from a sample of two, suggests that this idea of a ‘climate of fear’ is bunkum.

I am quite happy to discuss this at length.

All I will say (being from, and living in, Scotland) is that fear is a personal emotion, it can not be blanketed over a whole nation. Although the media like to hype this "climate" as it sells, this in turn creates a "climate" among the more easily influenced. So it really is a bit of a viscous cirle. Of coarse parliament/whitehouse administration don't do much to curb this fear because it plays into their hands and gives them more power.

ok, I think that stops short of a rant. But really, create a new thread, you're making me break my own suggestion here.

I would like to comment about this rather worrying trend towards the idea of political parties.

One of the key ways to undermine a region in NS is to grab endorsments for the UN Delegate. I see the creation of political parties here in the 10000 Islands as the main threat towards stabilility of the regions.

If for example a party felt that it wanted more control of the region it would only need 25% support of the 10k Is members to gain control of the region.

Let me show another way in which political parties can undermine a region. If a group of members within a party became disatisfied with the regions leadership then they are more likely to move enmass away from the region rather than singlely. This could have serious consequences on our popluation.

Currently we work under a kind of single party banner that allows single members to move to the top leadership roles. A person is judged and voted for based upon their views not the veiws of their faction, voting is done by individuals rather than down factionlines.

If we were to go political parties true freedom of democacry would be lost as only people from strong factions would ever be elected. What happnes if a faction puts up multiple candiates for the elcetions. In this case a small percentage of people hold the balance of power whilst the rest wallow in factional hell.

Just my opinions but I would urge you all to be very careful before supporting such a new and radical change in 10k Is policy.
