Hmm I'm not happy with the way my nation is developing. The decisions I have made have been in an attempt to create equality, fair opportunity, environmental protection and civil rights protection. Yet somehow, my government is described as corrupt dictatorship and bureacracy-choked morass, the tax rate is 50% and it just isn't what I wanted it to be.
I don't want a tax rate that high! How is this stuff calculated? How are decisions made based on a communistic approach turning me into a bureacracy choked corrupt dictatorship?

Every decision that you make in your issues has a radical impact on the way your nation is run. If you take one person's opinion, their idea is taken very literally. It turns out I castrate sex offenders and publicly shoot poets, just because I said rapists shouldn't be able to commit sex crimes and poets should be more quiet.
Just keep that in mind every time you make a decision.

For taxes, mine got up into the 65% range, which is out of control. I tried for about a month or so to make sure that I wasn't choosing any option that looked like it would raise my taxes. It turns out that even the innocuous looking issues often times increased my taxes.
In the end, I started dismissing every issue except for the tax cuts. I also get two issues a day, so that helped speed things along.
Seems that if you are forced to dismiss every issue to ensure a more realistic impression then the game is poorly written and needs to be reworked. Isn't the whole point to make decisions on issues? I also decided some small thing like "allow damming of some rivers" and now all my valleys are flooded.
The decisions you take will have exaggerated effects. Big time. I try to think about what sort of ridiculous effects the decisions I make might have, and if there is no choice that I truly like, then I dismiss the issue. Right now "income tax is unheard of" in Odracir, and I plan to keep it that way. Just make choices that will either get your government money without taxes, or choose tax cuts. The tax cuts will make your economy go up. As I said, I have no taxes, but I still have a Frightening economy, which is the best in the game.
I castrate sex offenders in Naoi too, but I knew that was going to be the outcome of that desicion and I love the idea. It's a great way to keep others from doing it!

I don't know what that means, but maybe I don't want to. Yupanqui is a corrupt dictatorship with excellent civil rights. My tax rate is terrible, but I'll do anything not to be a dictatorship. Even crazy stuff.

LOL. Good one Naoi. I saw that my nation's "military has had to quell a recenent insurrection by uninsured protesters." I don't even know where that could come from. It doesn't really matter though, if you like your nation that's all that counts.
