I highly recommend this chess website, because of 3 reasons:
1) There are always more than 10,000 players online!
2) There is more than just chess! Articles, competitions, tactic trainers, and even videos are avaliable.
3) It is very easy to play chess! You don't even need an account to play.

Yeah I prefer Chess.com to gameknot.
