I think clones should have the same rights if they were created. However, they shouldn't be created because...well, refer to the other forum in Taco Island
(FYI-there's a misplaced forum about this subject in Taco Island with many responses)
This resolution assumes that cloning is legal and further seems to assume that it's moral.
Since there has not been a resolution making cloning legal--and its morality is controversial--I am voting against this resolution and would urge our great Delegate to do the same.
I'm voting FOR the resolution. I am against cloning, too. But, IF clones are created, they should have equal rights... otherwise they will be used as unwilling organ donors, slave labor, etc. (just like in all the science fiction movies)

I'm for it as well. I'm leery of cloning, but I think clones would probably have rights. Being agnostic, I'm not sure if I believe in the concept of a "soul", but I do believe in sentience, and I believe that any sentient being has certain inalienable rights, life, liberty, pursuit of happiness, waffle breakfasts, blah blah blah. A clone would have a human genome, mind you, and would thus most likely be sentient, unless you believe that sentience is a function of the soul instead of a function of brain structure. Me, I think that even if it is, God would ensoul clones as well. And anyway, even if there is such a thing as a soul, who's to say what God hands out souls to? It could even be, and has been, argued that a sentient machine would have a soul. Man, whatever. I need to shut up, this is deep philosophy-class type stuff. Smarter men than I have pondered this and ended up basically saying "I got nothin'." BTW, this resolution, according to my sketchy understanding of law, would only affect countries in which cloning is legal. Countries in which cloning is illegal would have to treat clones as full humans, but could go on banning cloning. EDIT: Wow. Got so caught up in the philosophy of the thing, I ended up making a post longer than the resolution itself. Kinda sad, really.

Sheynat, you have some common sense and humility. Good job. I for this, since it's the Sensitive thing to do.

It never says we should start cloning, Odracir, it assumes we already have. If clones exist, they're human. They're genetically identical, however, each can have it's own unique personality.
As long as they're here, they might as well get equal rights. If we don't give them to clones, they'll just fight for it later.

But what about genetecally engineered people? A clone is the same as a human. I see the legal problems arising around people who have been engineered to be smarter, stronger, or shoot lasers from their eyes. Will they be allowed to compete in sporting events, will they be tracked t oamke sure they do not use their powers for crime? Should they? I have not voted yet, I am waiting to be persuaded...
Would you be nice to a person you thought was a hypocrite?

I'm the one that voted against it. Some of you know that I am a Catholic, and am therefore against cloning, let alone cloned people rights.
Please dont try the religion routine... I'm a catholic aswell but I dont condemn or condone cloning... but if a cloned child is born, and that child wants rights, than so be it.
Besides, hiding behind religion is a lame excuse. I mean look at Al Queda, " Jihad for the glory of Allah", a Jihad is not the torturing and killing of women and children, but they do it any way

Well, I'm a very hypotherical person (alternate universes, etc.) so really I kinda think that clones would have the same personality if placed in the exact same situations as their cloner(?). So really.... I don't know.
