Welcome to The Circle Party (TCP)
Motto: Moving Forward Together

Establishment: The Circle Party is founded out of a respect for our constitutional system, it’s preservation and continuation. TCP respects the traditions of 10000 Islands in all their forms, and seek to provide a voice for their existence and value in reform debates. TCP adheres to principles of Traditionalism, Incrementalism, and Defenderism.

Traditionalism: TCP believes that the values our constitutional system holds have provided an enormous benefit to the stability and security of our region. As such we feel it important to recognize and promote that value in discussions and debates centered around reform. We remain cautious of any efforts to undermine the letter or intent of our founding. We are also committed to the belief that senators and ministers first duty is to the functions of their office, and are committed to running with a view toward upholding these duties.

Incrementalism: TCP recognizes the need for reform discussions, and accepts that changes can be made within 10000 Islands. However, TCP also believes that those elected to lead the region have an obligation and duty toward legislative restraint and humility. The best reforms and improvements that we can make in the Islands are ones which build upon the history and legacy of 10000 Islands.

Defenderism: TCP supports the mission and independence of TITO and Command in their efforts to secure for all regions their autonomy and right to self determine - and against all those aggressor regions. TCP firmly supports the advocacy and promotion of our Defender values, both domestically and internationally.

TCP endeavors to bring these principles to our campaigns and governance, promote and advocate for their consideration by other parties, and remain open to the possibilities of the future. We welcome and invite all 10000 Islanders to join our party, and call on all likeminded individuals in other parties to advocate for common cause wherever we may agree, and be committed to an honest dialogue wherever we may not.

I can speak to your question from my views. During these past two months, discussing issues with Kuri, we both felt that the direction of the region has been moving in a way which seeks deeper changes to our governing system. We agree that that the desire to improve the islands should be applauded; but ultimately the system which we have now has kept and protected the islands for over 16 years - and value of maintaining the current system should be carefully weighed in making any reform decisions. So far this balance has been kept, but we are concerned that it can be easily lost in the exuberance and desire to make progress. Given that reform discussions have been ongoing over several terms we felt that we needed to express our belief and confidence in our current governing system and the established constitutional powers, as well as promote a moderating voice to ongoing reform discussions.

I haven't been here that long, so I'm not clear in what ways the current system has deviated from tradition. Perhaps you could explain.

Actually I believe the question you are asking is operating from a slight misunderstanding, personally I do not see the current system as deviating too far from tradition.

What is cause for concern is the regular pattern of reform efforts which have been a consistent issue of several of the past terms, with increasing frequency. I am worried that in the push to improve the islands it is likely that the value of our system with be discounted or dismissed - potentially to unknown and unpleasant results. In expressing this worry it is my goal to advocate for incrementalism as a positive council methodology, and seek moderation in reform outcomes — ones that take in to full account the values of our current system.
As an example; I believe the Transparency Act is a bill that is a good example of this effort. It took a while but I believe that we were able to address concerns about public input into the legislative process, and council transparency overall — all without making massive and unpredictable changes to our system. We took our time and were able to balance all competing values and come up with a well balanced bill.

Huh, the parties are making actual ideological platforms now? Interesting.

I would not consider myself a conservative in terms of the culture or politics of this region. While I most likely disagree with a fair amount of your platform due to my own history with reform, I do align with TCP on the aspect of the government structure/system.

Thanks! I read the constitution it seems fine as it is and I don’t think it needs changes. Also for the member information you could say I’m the Deputy Minister of Education instead of an islander. It sounds better.
