As part of the ongoing XKI Summer Olympics event, we will be hosting a set of competitive debates involving representatives of each of the three teams.
Each debate will feature a two-person team arguing either for or against the resolution proposed for the debate. Resolutions will be announced with sign ups but only after each two-person team is finalized will I randomly assign each team to either Affirm or Negate the proposed resolution for the debate.
Each Summer Olympics Team will debate each other Summer Olympics Team one time. The debates and topics are as follows:
Team ALEN against Team Anime Daisuki -- Judge: HumanSanity
Resolved: The United Nations should expand the number of permanent members of the United Nations Security Council and end the veto power exercised by permanent members of the United Nations Security Council.
Team Fleeb against Team ALEN -- Judge: Witchcraft and Sorcery
Resolved: Individuals should accept increased government surveillance to allow governments to implement effective tracing and tracking to contain the spread of the novel coronavirus.
San Kalungsod Saludong and Anisopterra (Team Fleeb) vs. Wille-Harlia and The Federation of New Udonia (Team ALEN)
Team Anime Daisuki against Team Fleeb -- Judge: Grea Kriopia
Resolved: Individuals should receive a universal basic income from their national governments.

The format of the debate is as follows:
- Introductory Statement given by Affirmative Team (500 word maximum)
- Introductory Statement given by Negative Team (500 word maximum)
- Rebuttal and Concluding Statement given by Affirmative Team (500 word maximum)
- Rebuttal and Concluding Statement given by Negative Team (500 word maximum)
Each member of the team must give/post one speech but can and should coordinate with their partner. 72 hours will be allowed between each statement (therefore, a debate will last a maximum of 12 days). If one teams' speech is ready early, the other team will have 72 hours from the time it is posted to respond.
Threads will be posted in each team's private planning area to recruit and select debate participants. For now, only one set of debates is planed however additional ones may be scheduled if there is sufficient interest.
After each debate concludes, the judges will examine the statements given by each team and decide which has made a more persuasive argument to select the winner. The winner of each debate will receive 25 points for their team. The losing team will receive no points.
Sign up for debates will conclude on June 15. At that point, debate threads will be opened and sides will be assigned.
Best of luck to all debaters!
