As part of the XKI Summer Olympics, we will be hosting a team Issue Writing competition.
Issues are the most basic part of NationStates, effecting the fundamental statistic for your main nation. In the XKI Summer Olympics, we wanted to celebrate this fact by including both Taco Island Charities' Nation Creation Contest to challenge nations' skill in answering issues and this Issue Writing contest.
For years, players have been able to submit their own issues to the NationStates site. These are then reviewed by Issues Editors and, if they are worthy, are coded into the game and become part of the issue pool.
Writing an issue is a challenging process and not one many 10000 Islanders have experience with. Accordingly, we'll be making it easy for everyone to get their feet wet by having this be a whole team event.
In each Team's private sub-forum there is a thread for you to work collaboratively on your issue. Suggest ideas, hooks, issue options, how different options should effect nation stats, etc. Work together to ensure you put together the best issue possible! For guidance, check out this general information about writing issues, this thorough guide to issue writing, and the list of known issues to ensure your idea is not a duplicate. You should also feel free as a team to take advantage of the Got Issues? forum for help with drafting once your idea is put together. Generally, you can also find extensive resources in that forum.
Issue submissions will be due by June 25th at 11:59 PM EDT (June 26 3:59 AM UST). To submit your issue, have one person on your team send me (HumanSanity) a final draft via PM. Issues will be evaluated by experienced Issue writer and WA Delegate and Chief Moderator of The Hole to Hide In Candensia. Candensia will offer feedback and select the winners. Eventually you will also likely hear back from Senior Issue Editor Candlewhisper Archive through their long time XKI puppet Finalanswer Archive.
Recognizing the challenge that issue writing represents in terms of finding a unique idea and developing your Issue, any team that comes up with a unique Issue idea and makes an honest effort to develop it will automatically receive 10 points. Additionally, the winning Issue (as judged by Candensia) will receive 50 points.
For those who want to take this past a regional competition, I've been told it is possible to submit co-authored issues however that only one nation is able to claim the Issue Author badge on their nation, and Teams will have to resolve internally who they believe should be able to take primary on-site credit for the issue.
Best of luck to all writers!
