'It's all well and good for you to criticize these books but at least the child is reading'. To which I say no, the child isn't reading. That's not children's literature. That's not The Wind in the Willows by Kenneth Grahame. That's not Charlotte's Web by E.B. White. It's just slop, fit only for the dustbin, where it will surely be found in a generation or so.
