Hi everyone!
Chief Executive Hakketomat has announced that he is resigning on November 6th, from which I'll take on the role. Big shoes to fill, fingers crossed I don't let him or the region down.
Concerning this cycle of elections, we've had an idea to ensure the big changes are done incrementally to ensure regional stability. The November cycle of elections will continue as normal, with declarations for the two senate seats this week and then voting beginning next Tuesday 8th November.
As I am currently the Delegate, the appointment as Chief Executive will result in a Delegacy vacancy. The Delegate Vacancy Act outlines a route for this to take place, in line with our aim of minimal changes in the Delegacy and ensuring regional security.
5. 4. Vacancies in the delegacy shall be filled by special election.
A. Special elections are held according to the usual timeline (one week for declarations, one week for regular voting, and a possible three days for a runoff).
B. The Chief Executive shall schedule this election at his discretion, minding the general principle that if a Senate election is coming up soon, the special delegate election should happen alongside it.
6.5. If the delegate special election cycle starts before the January or July Senate election cycles start, the winning candidate shall serve only the remainder of the vacated term. Otherwise, the winning candidate shall serve the remainder of the vacated term and six months thereafter. Roughly, this means that if there are two months or less left in the vacated term, the new delegate will serve the term and six months after, but if there are more than two months left, the new delegate serves only the rest of the term.

After discussing this with Hakketomat, the special election will be held in January 2023 in conjunction with the senate elections for New Republica South and Blue Canaria North. The person who wins that election will then be entitled to serve until September 2023 as detailed above.
We're making this decision for a number of reasons, this will allow:
- current foreign policy matters to be concluded
- minimal changes to take place gameside so the region remains secure
- time for me to complete the transition with Hakketomat without rushing things along
- the region to have less frequent changes in the Delegacy, with this method we'll potentially only have 2 changes next year as opposed to 3 or more.
- potential candidates to consider and plan what they'd like to do with a slightly longer term
- stability of government to continue without major upheavals
The amendment to the Delegate Vacancy Act enables this to take place. In practicality, I'll be Chief Executive from November 6th and will serve as Interim Delegate until January. The law above ensures that I will have one vote on the Council.
I hope this makes sense! Thank you all for your continued support.
