No, I did run across the occasional mention (so I was aware it existed) but I never saw it in stores. And later, never went back to read it. I stubbornly resisted reading fantasy stories until eventually I found a copy of The Hobbit somewhere.
I think my favorite series remains the Miles Vorkosigan stories by Louis McMaster Bujold. Although I did find The Lost Fleet by Jack Campbell, as well as his Pillars of Reality series of 9 books. That one I found strangely compelling to read through; it's a fresh take on a blend of fantasy and science. Good storytelling all of it.

I'm not sure if Gormenghast can be called fantasy. There's no magic or use of the supernatural. No mythical creatures. No spells, nor incantations. Although the characters are weird.

Well, maybe I missed something. Do you recommend reading that series then?
And factually speaking, any story that involves faster-than-light travel is at this point in time fantasy. Or hand-held ray guns. Or (sadly) flying cars, especially those that involve antigravity.

Well, if you find yourself looking for something to read, you might give the first one a try: Titus Groan. You could argue for FTL as science fiction. It starts with science, quickly becomes fictitious, and far too often devolves into fantasy.

Same here. I'm currently reading Fire and Blood, Martin's history of the Targaryens. He has a second volume planned, and mentioned two more for the original series. He must write around the clock.
