Hi all
I have a question about the "issues" that our nations face and the consequences of our decisions.
I found NationStates by accident one day and founded the country of Tequilaopia, based on the nectar of the Gods that I love too much sometimes. Started out fairly well Im assuming with a growing population, good economy, civil rights, and political freedoms.
Along comes the "issue" that the gambling sector employees want more money. Its gotta be good I think, more money into the pockets of the population=better economy, right? It now says Im crippled by the almost daily strikes.
A few days later the "issue" of the mining industry finding valuable deposits. I have choices between letting the mining companys go at it full out and destroy the environment, not allowing them access at all, or a combination of the two. Well destroying my nations environment isnt good. Letting these resources for my nation go to waste isnt good. Option 3 seems the best to me, environment protection and the resources. Now my nation is noted for its barren landscape.
Having a blast seeing what effects have on my nation but holy lol.
Yes you can. Generally the issues and decisions you make show up as the most extreme consequences to your region. eg If you agree to let people marry whomever they like you'll probably end up with something like "and the instances of people marrying their cats is on the rise" or something.
Since my country is economically conservative, I went full on mining, and my landscape is fine. For a time, the horse, my animal, was threatened, but not anymore. I prioritize my functions like this:
Politcal Freedoms and Economy must remain as high as possible.
Civil rights must come second. If I want to be a moralistic country, I won't allow drugs and abortions, anyway.
The environment is probably in back of me. I figure, it's just a game, I'm not losing any animals. And you can't run out of oxygen without trees. Everybody knows that about 90% of our oxygen comes from ocean plants.
No... It makes sence... I dont realy prioritize... I just look at what I believe would be best... (but still considering how my country looks at the moment) ... for my citizens.
Don't be afraid to dismiss issues, either. This is basically the "no change" option.
Also, check the small print on the issues - for instance in the first case the workers are threatening an all out strike if they don't get a huge rise. If you give it to them, then of course others will see this as the way to go.
In the second one, its proposed by the minister of mining and clear-felling. This guy is not in the eco-protection business.

I've got one nation where I choose whatever I feel like and don't think about the consequences, and one where that's all I think about. (Ironically, I can't get my main nation out of an economic slump, but my other nation is doing great.)
No sprinkles. For every sprinkle I find, I shall kill you.
Yeah - despite the claimed lack of bias, I find that civil and political liberties tend to be expensive in this game! Apparently someone still believes that oppression produces good workers.
