The stately, dignified study, adjacent to the Library, is furnished with half a dozen ornate and solid desks, a reading lamp for each, and a bookshelf on almost every vertical surface available. Floor to ceiling windows provide ample light at any hour of the day, even to the sunken corner of the room where a large map of the 10,000 Islands is laid out on a great oak table. (It is unclear how the massive table was brought into the room.) Shelving on the walls around the table hold ranks of plastic army figures, arranged around a pair of brown Pantsoan War Pants encased in glass. An espresso machine rests on a short, low counter which also hosts several rows of fine China cups and saucers. Strict instructions not to spill on the furniture or books are printed in four languages on cardstock, framed, and hung where their viewing is unavoidable.
While in theory each desk is free for the use of any House member, Jeanine Cutoffs, XKI Liaison Officer from the Republic of Pantso, has clearly marked out one for herself in the southeast corner. Tomes on law, politics, economics, history, and warfare are piled high around the desk, but open on top of it are copies of "Surfing for Dummies" by J. Wocky and "How to Train Your Cats" by U. Cant. When not in her office or on the Council floor, Ms. Cutoffs can often be seen here, coffee in hand, pen in the other, and using her elbows to try to keep the cat on her lap from climbing onto the desk. A cleverly hidden, but not exactly secret, panel in south wall leads to Ms. Cutoffs private rooms, where not even I am allowed to tread - so I request you respect Ms. Cutoffs privacy and stay out.
Otherwise, feel free to pour yourself a cup, poke through the books, and set yourself up at a desk. I'm up for pretty much any discussion about books, music, cooking, science, history, and probably more than a few other topics. So ask me a question, tell me a story, share a great song, or talk to me about what you're doing and where you're going. I'm looking forward to your visit!
