Climate Change! Immediate situation, or non-important event? The topic at hand: Climate Change! Being able to live on earth is a lifelong right we all enjoy, but there are activists that declare that we need to protect it or we may live in unfavorable conditions in the future. The side that supports climate change action states that we are releasing CO2 and other greenhouse gasses that end up warming the earth, causing major shifts in weather in various areas. They demand action now to stop the changing climate from being hostile to us. The side that does not support action states that the current plan put forward by these activists entail drastic action to where normal life will be disrupted and end up causing more harm than good by way of ineffective solutions and a hole in taxpayer's wallets. But what does the island's residents and vacationer's think?
There's pretty much universal consensus among scientists and world leaders on it being an immediate crisis and normal life has been and will be disrupted already, we should definitely do something about it but I do not know how in specifics.
It means, using the current laws and climate change actions, judge them as such. Are they doing it correctly? Should we alter some forms of action? Should the entire thing be scrapped because there's a better way to do it? Or should we stop all forms of action posthaste?

Climate has never been static. It has always been in a state of Flux, the natural result of a pressurized orb of gases that rotate. Climate change is a natural process. Witness the fact the we've had a few ice ages with warmer intervals between them. The earth warms, it cools, all by itself. However, we've done a lot to alter that process, and it has become imperative to do what we can to preserve life.

I'm all for being a responsible steward of the planet, but the current political climate has rendered this issue too political for honest debate. My favorite book of all time on the matter is State of Fear by Michael Crichton (Jurassic Park author). While it is a work of fiction, he uses many cited scientific papers to justify his conclusion. The climate change movement is nothing more than a political power grab and a money grab, nothing more and nothing less. Scientists are afraid to publish anything that goes against the current marching orders and many have lost funding for daring to speak out.

I'd have preferred to see a discussion on whether or not climate change is a real, man-made effect or not. Arguing about our response to it presupposes that it does exist and that it's indeed a problem.

You know what, I've realized that. I think I'll table this debate until I figure out a non-political stance to argue on.

Why avoid political debate? I'm one of very few conservatives here and don't mind going head to head. Pretty much anything of consequence that can be debated is either religious or political in nature. Other topics can be debated for sure, but at the end of your life does it matter whether MJ or LeBron was better? No. Topics that matter are divisive, but that doesn't mean we are better off avoiding them altogether. I'd argue the exact opposite is true.

That's what I was getting at above. Climate is never static, it is constantly changing. But one might argue that humans have affected that natural process.
AND I would vote for MJ over LeBron. Jordan elevated his teammates.
Plus, you're right that politics is no reason to avoid a debate. We once had political houses that engaged in lively debates.

Watched a fairly compelling ranking of the top 10 NBA players of all time that had LeBron as #9 and Jordan #1. There is no comparison. Length of career does not equal greatness.

Many would rank Kobe first, but I'm not one of them.
