A Senate would be pointless if Grub just appointed people, they would be advisors in that case.
That's true; they'd be advisors or cabinet members. Hey, that's what they are right now, and there's nothing wrong with that. I'm just trying to get the terminology consistent with the reality.

Then if they advised something he didn't like, there just wouldn't be a senate after a short while.
That's not true. Good leaders (there seems to be a concensus on this forum that Grub qualifies as such) surround themselves with advisors that they trust to tell them what they really think, even if it's not in agreement with the leader's own opinions.

Psychologese: There is a reason we have senators. That reason is that the people of 10000 Islands will have somewhat of a say in what goes on "inside". Appointing senators by Grub alone would make this a dictatorship like the Pacific. I don't want that. That's why I made that part in the constitution. GPP
I agree, Parthini. There are creative solutions to this problem, which I will reveal on Tuesday in the ammendment proposal. But I can't help mentioning that if the "insiders" want to have other nations have a REAL voice (rather than a constitutionally allowed one), then they should voluntarily decide that it doesn't make sense for them to endorse senate candidates.
Psy, other than a fairly obsessive need to amend the constitution and tell the leadership how they should behave, is there something we could interest you in here in 10000 Islands?
As above, for someone nominally new to NationStates and 10000 Islands your fixation on this puzzles me. It raises questions of secondary motivation. Tell us about this, and your experience in NS. It might help us get past a sensation of encountering someone with either an unstated agenda or an incredibly low social IQ.

This is the second time you've suggested that I might have some "secondary motivation" or be an "agent provocateur." I ignored it the first time because the message had a joking tone, but this message is clearly serious and I can see that a response is necessary.
Just what is it that you (and others?) think I might possibly by up to? I'm just trying to have fun with the game. As you no doubt know, there are many ways to play NS. One of the ways I've chosen is to get involved in the "politics" of 10,000 Islands. As one of the authors of the constitution, surely you can understand that motivation, as well as the fact that it might be fun to engage in the process. If I have any agenda other than fun, it is to challenge my own (and others!) thinking about government and democracy -- but this is well within the spirit of the game.
What are so concerned about? Have I been disrespectful to you or anyone else? Why is it so threatening for you (and I assume some others) to have someone challenge the status quo. As long as it's done respectfully, doesn't this just add to the enjoyment of the game for others? As I write this, this thread has 65 posts (only 10 are mine) and has been read 599 times. By comparison, the constitution has been viewed only 232 times. Doesn't this suggest that there is substantial interest in this discussion? As far as I can tell, I'm contributing to others' enjoyment of the game. If you can provide me with evidence to the contrary, I will either leave the region (which I don't want to do) or shut up (at least about this topic )

Remember folks, let us keep things civil. We may not see eye-to-eye but we are all citzens of the best damn region in the game.
Now my opinion, seeing how there have only been two Senate elections, is it not a tad early to start thinking trends?
