Jesioneka is currently pondering a run for Senate and has launched a fact-finding committee to research the success of such a bid for Senator. Jesioneka particularly wishes to court and gauge the support of members of the 10000 Islands who are non-TITO. The citizens of our nation believe that while TITO members rightly should comprise a majority of the Council of Nine and should be commended for their honorable actions and intents, unquestionable loyalty, and defense of freedom, there also must be a voice for neutral, pacific, and non-aligned states such as ourselves so that the new constitution does not threaten state sovereignty.
Please telegram or endorse Jesioneka within the next 24 hours indicating your support for a potential bid. Our government will not declare candidacy unless support already exists in the 10000 Islands. The lawmakers of Jesioneka will then announce a decision by January 1st.
Thank you, EUJ

After careful thought, thorough deliberation, and input from a variety of sources, the government and citizens of Jesioneka have reached a decision on candidacy for Senate.
In the interest and welfare of both our nation and the 10000 Islands at large, Jesioneka WILL run for Senate!
In light of several endorsements as well as support from high, respectable authorities within the 10000 Islands, Jesioneka will respond to the public outcry for a campaign. While supporting TITO's goals, we will stand for the rights of neutrality and non-alignment for all nations in order to give a balancing voice to the Senate. In this way, the election of Jesioneka to the Senate means that nations, new or old, need not fear or be threatened by the growing power, reach, and influence of the regional government of the 10000 Islands and TITO; after all, these agents are positive forces. Jesioneka simply wishes to preserve state sovereignty and pacifism for nations believing in these ideals.

After today's announcement, Jesioneka will cease political advertising until the 6th of January, the deadline for Senate application, in order to avoid repetition and annoyance. We see plenty of time for campaigning during the week of the 6th, and encourage other candidates to follow suit.
Questions about Jesioneka's positions or history can be posed here.
Thank you for your support! Long live the 10000 Islands! the EUJ

POSITION: The 10000 Islands should be more involved in the NationStates world.
There are essentially three ways to become more influential and involved in the world: militarily, diplomatically, and economically (in terms of trade). The NS world, unfortunately, does not lend itself to economic involvement or cooperation abroad, so I personally would welcome suggestions from any nation in order to build economic involvement. What remains are military and diplomatic involvement:
MILITARY INVOLVEMENT: If you recall, I am running on a platform of the rights of neutral, non-aligned, pacific states who need representation in the Council of Nine so as not to be threatened by the good forces of TITO and the new Constitution. That said, I am as fervently patriotic about the 10000 Islands as anybody else.
TITO's actions and goals are completely admirable and honorable. I would advocate that TITO acts just as it does now. It only gets involved in attacks against our allies or situations which it has heavily researched. We must have good intelligence to get involved in conflicts in the NS world because we cannot spread our forces thinly. As such, I support TITO's current selective approach to military intervention abroad.
I do not support pre-emptive strikes for several reasons. First, I am uncertain as to what exactly a pre-emptive strike is in the NS world. If intelligence tells us a region-crashing group is about to invade an ally, do we stop it by sending TITO to endorse their delegate? It seems to me that the difference is negligable from our method of sending support after the fact. I fail to see any good effect from a policy of pre-emption. Second, it would set dangerous precedents for other regions to pre-emptively attack our region without cause or explanation due to miscommunication or an aggressive foreign policy. Third, it violates the rights of regions to protect themselves; after all, every region is sovereign and typically only receives TITO help if they appeal to us. While TITO is a great, well-directed force, we can't simply let it run amok and weaken homeland security.
In sum, as Senator I would support TITO's well-advised, strategic intervention and leave it in status quo.
DIPLOMATIC INTERVENTION: Here, I see the potential for great growth. Because of our great growth in size recently, a plethora of embassies have been sprouting up within the 10000 Islands, and our ambassadorships have never been more numerous. Jesioneka welcomes this growth and sees international alliances as the key to stability for all regions.
One of my major, key goals as Senator is this: to establish a network between our UN delegate and UN delegates of other large regions who are likeminded. In this way, working in conjunction with other regions, the 10000 Islands can have the maximum efficiency in the United Nations by voting in step with other large regions. Of course, as a supporter of sovereign rights, our ideas and political stances will always be first and foremost in determining our vote in the UN, but if we can convince and persuade other large regions to vote with us, then we will be assured success in the UN. I recall a number of resolutions that were passed during Himes' delegacy which the 10000 Islands did not support, some on close votes; if we had worked with other international allies, we could have stopped their passage.
Secondly, another major goal is to establish a center for writing potential UN resolutions. So many resolutions in the UN are terribly written and constructed. If we had even a simple forum on the message board for this, we could deliver any number of resolutions, in line with the ideals of the 10000 Islands, which would increase our international clout.
All in all, I would push the 10000 Islands toward more effective UN involvement.

Why did you choose not to be a member of TITO?

Simply put, I am not a part of TITO not because I don't support its goals or actions. I think it is a well-run, honorable organization. I am not a member of TITO simply because I am a pacifist and a neutral nation. Our nation allocates very few funds to defense and maintains no actual army. Rather, we seek ends to conflict through diplomatic ends and would like to use the UN more effectively to solve global problems. At the same time, my nation respects the state sovereignty of others and tries not to intervene in the affairs of other nations.
This all might seem contradictory to a run for the Senate, but I am doing so because someone needs to provide a voice for other nations in the 10000 Islands like me, as a voice for non-TITO nations who may be pacific, neutral, or otherwise non-aligned.
I can clarify any of this if you'd like. I greatly respect your opinion on the affairs of the 10000 Islands, as I remember your time as UN Delegate.

Pardon the clarification but Swizerland actually does have an army. All male citizens are automatically a part of the national reserve. However, Swizerland never takes place in conflicts outside its own borders, so it is a neutral nation.

With much regret, the Etats-Unis of Jesioneka concedes the election to the Commonwealth of Nulibert. It was a sound 21-11 defeat, even though it was the closest election held. When I initially considered running for office, I thought I had much more support. Congratulations to all the new Senators.
For their constant support throughout my campaign, I especially wish to thank our UN Delegate New Parthini and Perugio--both distinguished TITO members who understood the importance of having an alternative voice on the Council of Nine.
Above everything else, I am extremely sorry that a large portion of the 10000 Islands population will go unrepresented. I tried, but the people failed to hear my call. I fear that your voices, unfortunately, will be silenced.
I am dismayed at our current electoral process. I understand that our message boards cannot support the proposed "pick four candidates from a full list" format, but there must be some way to find a different site--perhaps just for the election--that UN members can go to in order to vote. An offsite polling station, perhaps, that requires some registration. Maybe this is too ambitious. In any case, I am positive that if the voting process had been conducted this way, the system would be fairer.
Let me weigh in on one more tangent. While the idea of political parties seems good, I am indeed quite wary of it. Please, to future candidates, do not let it divide these Islands, create factions, and ruin our harmony.
I hereby withdraw from public life. I will not seek another bid for Senate. I may even withdraw from the UN due to the new euthanasia legislation that our Islands failed to prevent. (Although, I like to think that if I were Senator and could strengthen our UN influence, resolutions contrary to our votes would never pass.) A soon-to-be voted upon proposal concerning copyright laws, if passed, will also force Jesioneka into resigning from the UN, as we refuse to comply. If this happens, it will be a sad day in our nation's history. I hate to move toward isolationism, but I have been upset by many foreign actions as of late.
In any case, this is another long, tedious, unhappy post, but the last from me until skies are clearer. Farewell all. Long live the 10000 Islands.
Signed, the EUJ
