Dwarf Fortress is a game where you run your own outpost built out of a mountain. You get your dwarfs to farm for food, mine deeper into the mountain, smelt gold, build a death-trap which no goblin can pass, and name a dwarf Twobagger and make him carry dead rats to the kitchen before locking him in a room filled with starving wolves with rabies.

It has a very steep learning curve, and is almost impossible to master. It's graphics are discouraging and confusing at times, but get passed these things, and you'll become as addicted and entertained as I am.
