Writer's Corner

[Boktavia II]

Well, I thought that since we have a Socrates Cafe for thinkers and debating, etc., and a Coffee House for poets and song writers, that we should also have a writer's corner for authors, screenwriters and playwrights to post any ideas, excerpts, or whatever that they might want to share. I don't know, it's pretty hard to post a book, but I thought this would be cool anyway.

Well, I suppose to start off I should post one of own ideas. Taking my large knowledge of things baseball, I'm attempting to write a novel mixing baseball and science fiction, an interesting combination, if I do say so myself. Anyway, my story has the government suddenly unveiling a cloning device that not only allows them to make replicas of living people, but also to reanimate dead tissue. In short, bring people back from the dead. In order to ease this new discovery into the world and make it more acceptable, the government reaches an agreement with Major League Baseball to begin their research by reanimating the great baseball heroes of old- Babe Ruth, Cy Young, Ty Cobb, an many others. Of course, this new technology and the slightly odd way of introducing it cause an uproar, and everyone watches expectantly as the new baseball season begins, and the legendary players attempt to prove themselves. But they aren't quite the glorious heroes that the people thought they were, in more ways than one. To top it all off, there was an error in the research, and if something is't done quickly, the US government and baseball alike could be tainted forever.
Main characters: Carl Hubbell Jameson-founder of re-animation research, Sean Davis-reporter who attempts to find the real motive behind the government's interest in baseball, Babe Ruth- legendary baseball player brought back to life

lol, yeah, that was the kind of situation I wanted to do in this book.

heh, well I'll take a preorder on the book. Baseball is right up there on my list...number two after hockey of course. Think of the homerun derby you could fit in there...Today's best like Bonds, Sosa, Ramirez, Rodriguez etc... Against guys like Aaron, Ruth, Mays and who knows where Gehrig would have ended up if not for his famous speech.
