Today is a great day for democracy. I want to wish all the candidates good luck in this campaign. We ran hard campaigns and I'm glad that we did not repeat what happened in July's elections. Within a week, we will know who our Senator will be, hopefully, and they can get down to doing the people's business. Thank you all.

Things got a little heated. First election where the revamped (is that the right word?) ACN made a showing. First election after the failure of A&Bs judiciary proposal which had its own heated debates. Tensions ran a little high.

If Nixon stays above 50% he will win. If Parthini makes a comeback and that drops Nixon to below 50%, then we will have a runoff. We are also one vote away from the total we had last election.

We are two votes away from the total we had last election (it had 46). Five more nations have to vote for either ALP or Parthini and I can't get a single vote to cause there to be a runoff election.

Actually, 45 is how many we had last time. 55 Nations just went in and voted for some reason the other day. The official total was 45.

Also, to avoid a runoff, there would need to be 4 more voters that did not vote for you. If you have exactly 50%, that too would qualify for a run-off election. You would need 50.01% to stop a run-off. Odds are that isn't going to be necessary, but that is how it would go.

I agree - anything over 55% is considered a mandate and the margin is in double digits so it can also be considered a landslide. A landslide mandate, sweeeeeeet.

All UN members (TITO or otherwise) are citizens of 10KI and may vote in elections. Non-UNs are considered non-citizen residents and may not vote in elections.

I don't know if you can consider 55% a 'mandate' with so small an electorate... a handful (literally) of votes swing the other way, and you're looking at sitting out the next four months...
However, I think you can call your victory (55%-32%) a "landslide," if it stays that far apart.

Make that 6%! A mandate is anything above 52% in American politics, so we can say 55% here in NationStates.

Truth is, if one of your opponents had received a handful of your votes, we would be looking at a runoff right now.

For the 10000 Islands, I would think a mandate would need to be in the 70% range. Look at Twobaggers last election; that would probably be more of what a mandate looked like.
