As stated in my other post, I am interested in beginning another party similar to UPP that would align with 10K Island politics. I am going to make this thread the area in which nations can state their beliefs.
By the way, in case anyone wanted to use the beliefs of the UPP as a starting base for our beliefs, here is their manifesto:
Again, I am not looking for real life beliefs, but 10KI and NS beliefs in which if needed, we can impliment some of beliefs from real life.
Anyone can feel free to post here if they're interested.
BTW, for those that have to have a comparison to real life, this party would have more of a conservative platform to go up against the more liberal (RL) UPP.
By the way, in case anyone wanted to use the beliefs of the UPP as a starting base for our beliefs, here is their manifesto:
Dated The 29th of October 2005, the proceding document is The officially recognised manifesto of the United Progressive Party (UPP) of 10000 Islands. The policies pertaining to the furtherment of democracy, equality and regional progression in the manifesto were deliberated upon, and represent the unilateral stance and agreement of all the founding three members, Alfonia, Elgarve and Sinn Feins Ireland. Specific campaign emphasis is placed on articles one, four and six.
Article One: To increase the number of regional constituencies. (To around 40-50 nations per constituency.) In the last election there were only two, and an uncontested seat. It is the belief of the UPP that around 8-10 constituent seats should exist in the senate. This leads to a better representation of opinion. With only two seats, there is no majority, and with only three, the winning party could still get a hugely unrealistic majority. (Up to 100% of contestable seats with the plurality requirement of only 50.1% of the actual vote)
Article Two: Make the voting system fairer, whilst remaining simplistic. If possible, introduce an Alternative Vote (AV) system. Where you get to mark two names on the ballot paper. (Your first preference, and then second preference.) This however is not an immediate issue, more a longer term remedial progression in compliment to article one.
Article Three: Keep the UN nations as citizens with franchise (eligible to vote in elections). However we intend to introduce an overseas 'postal vote'. Foreign regional Representatives, TITO members on missions, (etc) could benefit. It is also our belief that Long standing Non-UN citizens who have been residents for a number of months should also be eligible to vote in senate elections. This is in light of the fact that UN citizenship is not the sole means of analysing regional loyalities and responsibilities.
Article Four: Secure government members a certain wage using the Taco monetary system based on appropriate time scales of work. E.g- Immigration members would get paid for the number of half hour units in a week, with bonuses depending on success. Members of the Dept. Labour will get paid per day or week etc. Also extending to but not limited to Senators, founder, heads of department, delegate could all get a higher band of wage. Every nation employed by 10000 Islands should have the ability to move up a wage bracket (and earn more, just like a pay rise). This would be in close accordance with the regional administration team and regional reserve chairman, in order to ensure accurate records of work and keep wages a fair number of percentage points above inflation rates.
Article Five: Every nation has the right to use the Taco monetary system to its full potential, in a non discriminatory fashion in accordance with their statutory rights as citizens of 10000 Islands. The extent of the Taco currency and corresponding economic system is in arguable evolution, so any new or future developments would be subject to this article.
Article Six: The UPP would like to organise regular regional Hustings meetings, where all regional party heads are encouraged to appear and answer questions based on their policies. The intended purpose of this is keeping involvement outside of election time. It is also our firm belief that any senator must be subjected to fair scrutinty and thus accountable to his electorate.
Article Seven: If a party constituency MP decides to leave the post of senator before the term is up, a single by-election is to be held in that seat.
Article Eight: All nations under government employment are to have certain amounts of paid holiday as basic rights, as well as leniancy in reasonable situations outside a nations control. This is in responce to the knock on effect that extenuating circumstances can have on nations ability to perform at satisfactory standard and time periods. Such circumstances have in the past resulted to unfair administrative action.
Article Nine: Change the name of senate to parliament or assembly to better represent the purposes that the elected body serves, and in correlation to the previous articles.
