President Linda Kozlov delivered her State of the Commonwealth earlier today:
Thank you, ladies and gentlemen. Today, we gather on our National Day as a united people. Through war and peace, growth and recession, night and day, we grow stronger day by day. That’s what makes our nation a great one. That’s what makes us more united than ever (Applause.)
Many developments in the region have surprised us in the government. Our foreign minister Josef Maxim was elected to a senate seat (Applause.) Yes…great job Joe. We now have a great constitution to unite us as a region more than ever. We’ve also seen some less than promising things, such as the development of political parties and the excessive god-modding going on with the space program. Nulibert will not be affiliated with any political party, and we will not enter the space program until our research and funding becomes significant enough (Applause.) We will not be a slave to small countries with big egos (Applause.)
We will, however, continue to grow and change both as a nation and as a people. Our new tax plan has brought our education system up to our very high standards, and our restructured public transport and commerce areas continue to be work well despite being under funded. I purpose in the next year that we resume funding to these areas, and keep them running strong (Applause.)
In the next fiscal year, I purpose a large tax cut as the economy begins to stabilize. We’ll be creating new jobs with new government projects, such as the damming of large rivers to provide new sources of energy, so we can wean ourselves off of nuclear dependency (Applause.)
We will continue to be an active participant in TITO, as will our overseas peacekeeping operations. We will not desert what is right and just in the world. We just cannot do that (Applause.)
Thank you for making our nation and our region strong for 2003. Let’s make 2004 – our 10th year as a Commonwealth – the strongest yet.
Thank you, and goodnight. Long live our islands.
