Ding, ding, ding. I am pleased to relay the official quarterly economic report of the 10000 Islands. This report has been complied by an old time economist who lives in our isles and is only known by the name Mortimer. Each quarterly report will be known as the Mortimer report. I will relay each Mortimer Report as he does not like to be seen in public.
July 2007 - A staggering 360,000 Tacos were poured into the Islands in this first quarter. These investments were put into building capital cities, farming, mining, shipping & factories. There are many factors that have been compiled to bring you these reports.
Capitals:
14 nations took their resources and collectively decided to make a move of progress for their nation by building a capital. With a capital comes national respect both internally and externally. National pride was high this quarter with workers and raw materials being plentiful. Capitals went up in record time and the economy of scale helped boost the speed at which these cities went up. The wealthy of many nations were impressed at this large scale feat and a net profit of 2,000 was gained from all nations with a capital.
Farming:
With many capitals being built, the labor for the region was in high demand. Farming to feed the hungry workers was launched immediately by a handful of nations who wanted to corner the market by using new techniques to grow crops quickly. These farms did produce quick crops which were then shipped out and sold, but the quality of the food was not at its peak. Meteorologists blame poor weather cycles over many of the islands. Thankfully, though, hungry workers will eat anything. All farms produced 2,500 in profit this quarter.
Mining:
Mining is a relatively new science in this part of the NationStates world. Of the three mining companies that opened their doors, none found the mother load of gems and gold that have been rumored to be around these parts. While no staggering finds were made, very solid deposits of iron ore & copper were successfully mined. Each mine produced 1,000 in profit.
Shipping:
The influx of workers and raw materials were mainly made possible by five new shipping fleets that went all over the 10000 Islands. These fleets were as busy as can be and charged somewhat substantial fees for their services. The demand was high as were their profits. Each shipping fleet earned 7,000 .
Factories:
Factories are currently the hardest and most costly to build on the 10000 Islands map. With their steep price tag, few nations could afford these modern marvels, and unfortunately, few needed them this quarter. The large majority of factories were not needed as many of the parts for the capitals were sent in from The North Pacific before our factories could fully become operational. While Mortimer has stated that he sees a bright future for factories, this current quarter was brutal and each factory lost 5,000
